Job Opportunity: Emergency Room Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Lansing, Michigan
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (4 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Hours per Week: 48


Job Description

  • Emergency Room nursing position in a Level 1 Trauma Center with Stroke and Heart Center designations, including a Pediatric Emergency Department.
  • Floating to Pediatrics possible.
  • Weekend requirement: Work 3 weekends (Friday-Sunday) per 4-week schedule; may work 1 to all 3 weekend days.
  • No on-call duties.
  • High patient-to-nurse ratios expected (typically 1:5-6, potentially up to 1:8 during busy times or holidays).

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Michigan
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) experience
  • Emergency Department experience within the last year
  • Experience working with Level 1 Trauma patients
  • ACLS issued by American Heart Association
  • BLS issued by American Heart Association
  • PALS issued by American Heart Association
  • TNCC
  • NIHSS
  • Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
  • Experience with Epic

Preferred Experience

  • Experience with continuous IV sedation and procedural sedation administration.
  • Triage experience.
  • First-time travelers accepted (prior travel experience not required).

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Valid Driver’s License/State ID (must be current throughout assignment).
  • Social Security Card.
  • E-Verify compliance.
  • Background checks within 30 days of assignment start, including:
    • 7-year Social Security Number Trace
    • National Criminal History Search (7 years)
    • National Sex Offender Database Search
    • FACIS Level 3 Search
    • Education verification (highest level required)
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start.
  • Physical exam within 12 months of start, noting latex sensitivity.
  • N95 Fit Mask test within 12 months, updated annually.
  • Immunizations and titers:
    • Tdap vaccine within 10 years or declination
    • Negative TB test (2-step PPD or Qgold within 2 months) or chest x-ray if positive
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella immunity (2 MMR vaccines or titers)
    • Hepatitis B immunity or vaccination series or declination
    • Varicella immunity (2 vaccines or titers)
  • 10-panel drug screen with THC within 30 days of start (no medical marijuana cards or dilute screens accepted).
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or declination required if assignment overlaps flu season (Oct 1 – Mar 31).
  • Facility-specific documents and modules must be completed prior to or at orientation (modules are not billable).
  • Orientation Safety Manual acknowledgment required.
  • Competency exams as applicable (medication/pharmacology and unit-specific).
  • Resume with 7-year work history and 2 references from previous employers.
  • Skill inventory checklist required.

Additional Notes

  • Return-to-Office (RTO) documentation must be submitted at time of application; no additional RTO approvals later.
  • No RTO allowed for the month of July.
  • Modules related to the unit must be completed before starting floor work; delays may prevent working out of compliance.
  • High patient ratios require acknowledgment and readiness to manage workload.

This position is ideal for experienced ER Registered Nurses seeking a travel contract with a Level 1 Trauma Center environment, offering night shifts and weekend work with a supportive team and opportunities to float to pediatrics.
