Description

Registered Nurse – Emergency Room (ER)

Location: Potsdam, New York
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

  • Work in a Level III Trauma Center and Primary Stroke Center emergency department combining adult and pediatric patients (non-trauma ED as well).
  • Night shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each).
  • Weekend requirement: Every other weekend (2 weekends per 4-week schedule).
  • Patient ratio experience required: 1:5.
  • Unit systems used: EPIC (electronic medical records), Pyxis (medication dispensing), SBAR (communication).
  • Unit orientation duration: 24 hours.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in New York.
  • Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) experience, including experience within the last year.
  • Neuro Trauma experience.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing.
  • ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association.
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association.
  • PALS certification issued by the American Heart Association.
  • TNCC certification.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention).
  • TCAR (Trauma Care After Resuscitation).

Health and Compliance Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID).
  • Background checks including 7-year criminal history, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG within 30 days of start.
  • Education verification for nursing degree.
  • Annual harassment prevention training (New York state requirement).
  • Medication/pharmacology competency exam as required.
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam.
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, updated annually.
  • Fit mask test within 1 year of start, updated annually (specific mask types required; PAPR exemption possible if fit test failed).
  • Immunizations and titers:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (Tdap required within 10 years).
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year.
    • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella – positive titer or vaccination required.
    • Hepatitis B – positive titer, completed series, or declination.
    • Varicella – positive titer, vaccination, or documented history.
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination during flu season.
  • Drug screening within 30 days of start (specific panels required).
  • Snellen eye exam within 1 year of start.

Documentation and Verification

  • Two professional references required.
  • Employment application and 7-year work history verification required.
  • Skills checklist updated annually.
  • Photo for badge (passport-style with solid background).
  • Completion of facility-specific training modules and policy reviews prior to start.

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must complete all health-related requirements and lab work within 5 days of signing the contract if booked within 30 days of start.
  • Strict adherence to expiration dates on health documents; renewals required prior to expiration during assignment to avoid removal from the floor.
  • No local candidates accepted; must reside more than 50 miles away.
  • First-time travel nurses are welcome to apply; prior travel experience is not required.
