ICU Registered Nurse

Contract Length

13 weeks

Schedule

• 3x12-hour day shifts
• Shift times: 6:30 AM–7:00 PM
• 36 hours per week
• Weekend requirement: at least 6 weekend shifts within each 6-week schedule block
• Holidays are worked at manager discretion based on unit needs

Required Qualifications

• Active RN license
• ACLS
• BLS
• NIHSS
• Minimum of 3 years of ICU experience
• No first-time travelers
• Experience titrating drips

Unit Details

• 23-bed ICU
• Patient ratio ranges from 1:1 to 1:3 depending on acuity
• Mixed medical-surgical and thoracic/cardiovascular ICU population
• Common patient types include respiratory failure, ARDS, CHF, COPD, post-STEMI, post-arrest, post-surgical, CABG, carotid, DKA, GI bleed, overdose, ETOH withdrawal, CVA with or without TNK, and renal failure
• Travelers may be assigned IABP, Impella, CRRT, or open heart recovery if competency is established and verified

Responsibilities

• Titrate drips such as pressors, sedation, paralytics, insulin, and heparin
• Float first when needed
• Manage EKG monitoring and interpretation
• Draw labs and perform EKGs
• Attempt peripheral IV access before requesting assistance

Orientation

• 8 hours of non-billable orientation
• 2 additional non-billable modules before the first day
• 2 unit orientation shifts:

  • Day 1: classroom and unit orientation
  • Day 2: unit orientation with a preceptor for a 12-hour shift

Additional Notes

• Black scrubs required
• No call or standby requirement
• No holiday RTO approved
• Holiday call-ins may result in contract cancellation
• Must clock in and out at the facility
• Zero tolerance for license or background hits
• Two supervisor references required; charge nurse does not count
• DOB and SSN required for submission
