Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse

Location: Tyler, Texas
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Work Schedule

  • Shift: Day shift, 6:30 AM – 3:00 PM
  • Monday through Friday (5 days/week)
  • 40 hours per week
  • Call required

Required Experience & Skills

  • Minimum 1.5 years of Registered Nurse experience
  • Prior travel nursing experience required
  • Experience in the following areas is mandatory:
    • Orthopedics
    • General Surgery
    • Neurosurgery
    • Vascular
    • Urology
  • Preferred experience (not required):
    • Da Vinci robotic surgery
    • Endovascular procedures
    • Ophthalmology (eyes)

Documentation & Compliance Requirements

Licensure & Verification

  • Valid Registered Nurse license for Texas with primary source online verification
  • NURSYS verification required
  • Driver’s License or State ID required

Background Checks

  • 7-year background check within 1 year of start, updated annually
  • Includes Social Security trace, county searches for last 7 years, nationwide search, sex offender registry, and education verification
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required upon hire
  • Fingerprinting required for New Mexico placements only

Certifications (as applicable)

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
  • CHEMO (Chemotherapy certification)
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
  • Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB)
  • NIH Stroke Certification
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute)

Competencies

  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (minimum 80% score or meet/exceed Angoff score)
  • Color Blindness test (online version accepted)
  • Profession-specific competency exams (minimum 80% or Angoff score)
  • Annual completion of Core testing for subcontractors

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 12 months of start
  • Fit test for approved masks within 1 year, renewed annually
  • Adult Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within 10 years (no declinations except approved medical exemptions)
  • Negative TB test (2-step PPD, QGOLD, or TSPOT) within 1 year; if positive, additional documentation required
  • TB questionnaire within 90 days for positive results, renewed annually
  • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; boosters required if titers negative or equivocal
  • Hepatitis B: Positive titer, full series, or declination accepted; boosters accepted if titers negative or equivocal
  • Varicella: Positive titer, 2 vaccines, or physician-documented chickenpox history required; boosters required if titers negative or equivocal
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 – Mar 31); declinations not accepted
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start

Restrictions

  • Candidates residing in the following Texas counties are not eligible for this travel contract:
    Henderson, Anderson, Cherokee, Rusk, Panola, Smith, Gregg, Van Zandt, Wood, Upshur, Camp, Hopkins, Franklin, Titus, Morris

This position offers an opportunity to work in a dynamic operating room environment requiring diverse surgical nursing skills and prior travel experience. Compliance with all licensure, certification, health, and background requirements is mandatory.

  • OR - Operating Room (1.5 years of experience)
  • OR - Operating Room experience within the last year
  • One completed travel assignment
  • BLS - Basic Life Support issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Orthopedics experience
  • Neurology experience
  • Vascular Surgery experience
  • Urology experience
