NICU Registered Nurse

Job Overview

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Virginia
  • NICU - Neonatal Intensive Care (2 years of experience)
  • NICU - Neonatal Intensive Care experience within the last year
  • BLS - Basic Life Support issued by American Heart Association
  • NRP - Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure issued by American Heart Association
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Conscious sedation experience
  • Ventilator management experience (invasive and noninvasive)
  • Umbilical artery catheter (UA) and umbilical venous catheter (UVC) maintenance experience
  • Replogle tube management
  • Chest tube management
  • Thoracentesis procedure experience
  • Venous and arterial blood sampling
  • Surfactant administration
  • Pediatrics experience
  • Maternal - Newborn experience

Unit Details

  • Ratios: 1:1–4
  • Procedures include invasive and noninvasive ventilation, IV access and maintenance, UA and UVC, Replogle, chest tubes, thoracentesis, venous and arterial blood sampling, and surfactant administration
  • Common diagnoses include extreme prematurity, RDS, TTN, infection/sepsis, medical NEC, PPHN, pneumothorax, MAS, poor feeding, glucose instability, late-preterm, and respiratory conditions
