Description

PCU Registered Nurse

Overview

  • Travel/contract RN position in Roanoke, Virginia
  • Night shift: 3x12s, 6:45 PM–7:15 AM
  • Contract length: 13 weeks
  • First-time travelers accepted
  • Locals accepted

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Virginia
  • PCU - Progressive Care Unit (1 year of experience)
  • PCU - Progressive Care Unit experience within the last year
  • ACLS issued by American Heart Association
  • BLS issued by American Heart Association
  • NIHSS
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Cardiac monitoring, emergency response, and dysrhythmia interpretation/management
  • Administration of common IV medications: Cardizem drips (no titration), Insulin drip protocol, Heparin drip protocol, Amiodarone
  • Experience with Epic

Scheduling and Assignment Details

  • May be scheduled every other weekend or for 6 weekend shifts in a 6-week block
  • Must work one holiday during the contract
  • May be called off 1 shift per 2 weeks
  • Must float within skillset

Clinical Skills

  • Cardiac monitoring, emergency response, and dysrhythmia interpretation/management
  • IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, and central/peripheral line care
  • Cardizem drips without titration, insulin drip protocol, heparin drip protocol, and amiodarone
  • Nasal cannula, oxygen administration, and non-invasive airway management
  • Rapid response/code team use and isolation precautions

Unit Notes

  • Adult and geriatric patient population
  • Primary service line is Pulmonary/GI
  • No vents on the unit
  • May work without CNA support
  • Ratio: 1:5

Compliance and Pre-Start Items

  • Driver’s license or state ID required within 48 hours of signing
  • E-Verify or attestation required
  • 7-year background check required
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start
  • Transcript or diploma required for this role
  • Education verification of highest earned degree required
  • NURSYS verification required for all RNs
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start
  • Fit mask testing within 1 year of start
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year of start
  • TB questionnaire required
  • Measles, mumps, rubella, hepatitis B, and varicella immunity documentation required
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
  • 2 clinical references required
