Schedule
- 12-hour night shifts
- Self-scheduling allowed
- Block scheduling may be accommodated if unit needs are met
Weekend / Holiday / Call
- Every other weekend for travelers
- Call or standby may occur rarely if census is low
Floating
- May float within the hospital, including ICU and stepdown, within skill set
Required Qualifications
- Active RN license
- BLS and ACLS certifications
- Must be able to read rhythm strips
- Must submit an unexpired driver’s license copy
Unit Details
- 43-bed unit
- Typical nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:5, with flexibility up to 1:6
- Common patient types include post-cardiac catheterization, CHF, COPD, post-pacemaker, arrhythmias, and patients awaiting CABG consult
- RN may titrate heparin; Cardizem and amiodarone are not titrated
- Occasional high-flow oxygen use
- BiPAP and CPAP are for supportive therapy only
Orientation
- 1 day of computer training
- 1 day of floor shadowing with a preceptor
- Independent on the third day
Additional Notes
- Unit is fast paced
- New graduates are welcomed and the team is willing to teach
- Royal blue scrubs required
- Scrub jackets are allowed if they are actual scrub jackets; hoodies and sweatshirts are not allowed
