Acute Care RN Job Summary

• 12-hour shifts
• 36 hours per week
• Every other weekend

Required Qualifications

• Active RN license
• BLS certification
• NIHSS certification
• 2 years of specialty experience
• 1 year of experience with 1 travel assignment
• Must be able to work in a high-acuity, fast-paced acute care setting
• Must be able to work with patient ratios of 1:6 on days and nights
• Must be within a 75-mile radius

Preferred Qualifications

• ACLS certification

Unit / Patient Population

• 14-bed unit
• Adult acute care patients with medical and cardio needs, including overflow acute care holds
• Common conditions include diabetes, CHF, COPD, GI bleed, renal failure, dialysis, post-surgical overflow, amputations, debridements, wound care, DVTs, alcohol withdrawal, and psych
• May include hospice in the future

Responsibilities

• Primary care nursing
• May be asked to take a patient assignment if needed
• Rotate with permanent staff

Additional Notes

• Nurses are not required to read strips
• CNA support is generally 1:12, with occasional 1:1 and sitter coverage
• CPAP is used; BiPAP is used only at night
• Strict attendance policy
• No bags at the nurses station; locker use is allowed with a lock
• Nails may be polished only; artificial or shellac nails are not allowed
• Scrub colors allowed: Caribbean blue top and bottom, white top with Caribbean blue bottom, or all white
