MS ICU 3N/3S RN

Overview

• Role: RN (Registered Nurse)
• Specialty/Unit: Med Surg ICU RN
• Location: Omaha, Nebraska
• Facility: Health Creighton University Medical Center
• Contract length: 13 weeks
• Shift: Nights, 12-hour shifts
• Hours: 36 hours per week guaranteed

Required Qualifications

• 2 years recent ICU experience
• BLS
• ACLS
• NIHSS
• RN license
• Must be able to read and interpret telemetry strips
• Driver’s license required at submittal

Unit Details

• 34 beds
• Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:1-2 in ICU, 1:4-5 in PCU, and 1:5-6 in MS
• Charge nurse is on each shift and attends RRTs and Codes
• Nurse aides/patient care techs are available at a ratio of 1:18
• RNs titrate drips
• Common titratable/set-rate drips include vasopressors, paralytics, narcotics, sedation, and antiarrhythmics
• RT equipment includes nasal cannula to vents
• No tele/monitor techs; RNs read their own strips
• Floating: all inpatient units except Maternity/NICU
• Scrub color: Navy Blue
• Orientation: 2 shifts

Patient Population / Clinical Setting

• Adults and pediatrics over 15 years old
• Common diagnoses include respiratory failure, ARDS, MODS, sepsis, stroke, cardiogenic shock, renal failure, general surgery, psych/OD, GI bleeds, and cancer-specific surgeries
• Unit supports neuro surgery and neuro interventional thrombectomy program cases, but prior experience is not required
• The unit is fast paced and serves as the primary tertiary hospital for the system

• Interview with unit leaders
• RTO must be provided upfront; additional RTO will not be approved
• Candidates may not be full time, part time, or PRN with any facility associated with CommonSpirit, including CHI and/or Dignity
• Artificial nails are prohibited in patient care areas
