Overview

• Travel contract for a Telemetry nurse in Bakersfield, California
• Contract length: 13 weeks
• Shift: Nights
• Hours: 12-hour shifts, 36 hours per week

Unit Details

• Unit: 4W Telemetry
• 31 beds total
• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4
• Telemetry system: Phillips
• EMR: Cerner

Required Qualifications

• 2 full years of experience
• Active BLS
• Active ACLS
• Active NIH
• Active CA License

Schedule and Work Expectations

• Weekend requirement: 4 shifts out of every 4-week schedule
• Holidays: expected to work into the perm staff holiday rotation, including 1 major holiday and 1 minor holiday
• Call requirement: must report within 30 minutes if placed on standby/call
• Block scheduling is allowed if unit needs are met, but not guaranteed
• Floor-specific orientation: 1–2 shifts with a preceptor

Floating

• Travelers are first to float
• May float between MSW and MHB
• May also float to 2W MedSurg remote tele, MedSurg SW, ICU for tele MS hold, or ER holds

Clinical Setting

• Common patient types include post pacer, hemodialysis, new onset afib, RVR, stepdown from ICU, urology patients, oncology patients with cardiac problems, rare ortho patients, correctional patients, strokes, TBI, high-acuity patients, heavy patients, patients with bedsores, patients from nursing homes, peg tubes, and sepsis

Additional Notes

• Must be able to read and interpret all cardiac rhythms
• Vents: Cpap or Bipap per RT
• Charge nurse support: Shift Manager and a Resource Nurse
• Nurse aides: 2 on days and 1 on nights
• Hospitalist or Intensivist in house; on call after hours
• IV Team: No
• RT 24/7: Yes
• Pharmacy 24/7: Yes, with Omnicell
• Scrub color: Navy blue; scrub jacket and undershirt color restrictions apply
