ICU RN

Role Overview

• Travel contract for an experienced ICU RN.
• Unit: Mixed ICU (medical and CV), 4th Floor.
• 24 beds.

Required Qualifications

• 2 full years of ICU experience.
• Active BLS.
• ACLS.
• NIHSS.
• WA License or Compact License.
• Drivers License required at time of submittal.

Preferred Qualifications

• CRRN.
• PCCN.
• Specialty skills such as management of Swans, Prismaflex CRRT, IABP, and immediate open heart recovery.
• EPIC experience.

Clinical Details

• Ratios: 1:1 and 1:2 for ICU acuity; 1:3-4 for PCU acuity.
• Common patient types include sepsis, COPD, COVID, pneumonia, withdrawal, strokes post TNK administration, CRRT, IABP, Impella, PA catheters, post-cardiac arrest patients, immediate open heart recovery, cath lab overflow, and post-surgical patients needing longer recovery.
• RNs are required to titrate drips.
• Charge and resource nurses are on every shift.
• CNA ratio is 1:12, and CNAs may be pulled for 1:1 sitters.
• Hospitalist or intensivist is in house 24/7.
• Dedicated pharmacist is available until 11, then house pharmacy after that.
• RT is dedicated to ICU 24/7.
• RT equipment includes CPAP, BiPAP, and vents.
• ICU nurses are required to set up, manage, and interpret monitors and their own strips.

Schedule

• Shifts: 07:00-19:30 and 19:00-07:30.
• Self-scheduling in 6-week blocks.
• Nights.
• May work many Sundays.
• Holidays rotate with permanent staff.
• No call or standby requirement.

Floating

• Most often floats between the 4th, 5th, or 6th floors (critical care) or to the ER for patient holds.

Additional Notes

• Orientation/education hours are not guaranteed during the first 2 weeks; expect 25+ hours.
• Can test out of Epic if experienced within the last year.
• Modules are required.
