Overview

• Location: Council Bluffs, Iowa
• Contract length: 13 weeks
• Shift: 12-hour days, 6:30 a.m. - 7 p.m.
• Hours per week: 36

Unit Details

• General Adult Unit: 14 beds
• Special Care: 8 beds
• Kids Unit: 14 beds
• The unit staffs as one combined unit, so the nurse may spend time with kids or adults, typically adults.
• Typical ratio: 1:6 or 1:7 depending on staffing
• Nurse aides are on the unit when fully staffed at a 1:14 ratio

Required Qualifications

• BLS (AHA)
• RN license
• Must be able to manage care of 7 patients without difficulty, including discharges and admits
• De-escalation skills
• Driver’s license required at submittal
• Must pass an open-book skills exam during orientation with a score of 90% or higher

Schedule / Expectations

• Every other weekend
• Holiday requirement: every other holiday
• May occasionally be placed on call if overtime shift is needed
• Unit orientation: 1 shift with adults and 1 shift with kids

Clinical Setting

• Behavioral health patients, including schizophrenia, anxiety, bipolar disorder, depression, and suicidal ideation
• Respiratory equipment on unit: BiPAP, CPAP, O2
• No telemetry on the unit
• No nurse titration of drips
• No charge nurse / house supervisor role on the unit

• Epic experience is helpful
• Navy blue scrubs
• Artificial nails are prohibited in patient care areas
