ICU RN

Overview

• Travel contract for experienced ICU nurses in Sacramento, California.
• 13-week contract.
• Nights, 12-hour shifts, 36 hours per week.
• Start dates listed: 11/10 or 11/17.

Unit Details

• ICU unit with 12 beds.
• Patient ratios: 1:1-2.
• Medical/Surgical ICU with common diagnoses including Non STEMIs, CVA, MOF, Sepsis, respiratory failure, and post-op complications.
• Common bedside procedures include TEEs and bronchs.
• Comfort care patients are common and remain in the ICU.

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in California
• ICU - Intensive Care Unit (2 years of experience)
• ICU - Intensive Care Unit experience within the last year
• BLS issued by American Heart Association
• ACLS issued by American Heart Association
• NIHSS
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Driver's License

Schedule and Work Expectations

• 4 weekend shifts minimum in a 4-week period.
• Holidays rotate with core staff.
• Travelers will work 2 of the 3 major holidays: Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s.
• Self-scheduling is used, but final schedules are balanced by the manager.
• Block scheduling is generally not available.
• Overtime and extra shifts are available.

Clinical Environment

• Charge nurse generally does not take patients but does provide break relief.
• No nurse aides.
• Vents are present.
• Hospitalist or Intensivist is in house.
• RT and Pharmacy are available 24/7.
• No IV team.

Floating

• May float to other Sacramento facilities.
• Mid-shift float to another facility is rare but can happen.
• First to float.

Orientation

• 1 to 2 days on the floor with a preceptor.

Additional Notes

• Cerner is used.
• Navy scrubs required; undershirts must be navy, white, or black.
• Scrub jackets are optional and must be navy.
• Multidisciplinary rounds occur on days.
