    Description

    Med Surg/Tele RN

    Overview

    • Travel contract for a Med Surg/Tele RN in Bakersfield, California.
    • 13-week contract.
    • 12-hour day shifts, 36 hours per week.
    • Mixed MedSurg & Tele unit with 39 beds.

    Required Qualifications

    • Active CA RN license.
    • 2 full years of experience.
    • BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications.
    • Must be able to read and interpret all cardiac rhythms.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Cerner experience.

    Unit Details

    • Fast-paced mixed unit with many admissions and discharges due to surgical volume.
    • Typical patient mix includes MedSurg and telemetry patients, with ratios of 1:5 for MedSurg and 1:4 for telemetry.
    • Common patient types include acute/chronic medical conditions, post-surgical patients including bariatrics and total joints, stroke patients, and non-titratable drips.
    • Set rate drips include Cardizem, Amiodarone, and Heparin.
    • Vents used: CPAP or BiPAP per RT.

    Schedule and Float

    • Weekend requirement: 4 shifts out of a 4-week schedule.
    • Holidays: expected to work into the perm staff holiday rotation, including 1 major holiday and 1 minor holiday.
    • Travelers are first to float.
    • Float scope includes MedSurg/Tele, ICU for MedSurg patients if no beds, and ER for MedSurg Tele holds.
    • Orientation is normally 1-2 shifts, up to 3 depending on Cerner experience.

    Additional Notes

    • Attendance expectations are strict.
    • Block scheduling is not guaranteed.
    • Navy blue scrubs are required.
