MedSurg 4th Flr RN

Role

• RN on the 4th Floor Med Surg unit with 37 beds
• Nights, 12-hour shifts, 36 hours per week

Required Qualifications

• BLS (AHA)
• Acute Care Nursing
• RN must be competent in reading telemetry strips
• Must be in state for the week of orientation
• Driver’s license must be submitted

Unit Details

• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4/5 on days and 1:5/6 on nights
• Common patient types include CHF, pneumonia, COPD exacerbations, and general Med Surg patients
• Telemetry is centrally monitored off the unit
• Nurse aides are on the unit at a ratio of 1:12
• Moderate oxygen needs on the unit

Scheduling

• Self-scheduling and block scheduling are available
• Full-time and part-time staff are expected to self-schedule a minimum of six weekend shifts per six-week schedule
• Holiday coverage is required
• Call or standby is determined by the nurse manager

Floating

• May float within Zone 3 if there is extreme need
• May be asked to float to ICU, PCU/Stepdown, and MS-Tele
• ICU float includes low-acuity holds with the current skill set

Other Details

• Scrub color: Navy Blue
• Charge nurse does not take an assignment
• RN is not required to titrate drips
