CVU RN
Overview
- Travel RN role in the CVU, based in a combined HVI unit with Cardio/General ICU/PCU/MedSurg patients.
- This is an ASAP need.
- Contract length: 13 weeks.
- Hours: 48 per week.
- Shift: Nights, 12-hour shifts.
Required Qualifications
- RN license.
- BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS.
- 1 year of experience with this patient population.
- Must be able to titrate drips.
- Driver’s license required at submittal.
- Must pass an open-book RN exam during orientation with a score of 90% or higher.
Unit Details
- 18 beds.
- Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:4, and 1:3 for post-surgical patients in the first 24 hours.
- Patients include intermediate care and downgraded CVICU patients.
- The unit heavily supports the thoracic program, EP, cath lab, and structural heart.
- Common diagnoses include Cath Lab, CVAs, CHF, A fib RVR, and other cardiac and vascular diagnoses.
- Hospitalist and intensivist are in house 24/7, with Cardiology on call after hours.
- RT is in the ICU 24/7.
- Remote tele techs are used; RNs must read and interpret strips.
- Common equipment includes BiPAP, CPAP, and nasal cannula.
Schedule and Work Expectations
- Manager schedules the shifts; no block or self-scheduling.
- Weekend requirement: every other weekend.
- Call or standby: N/A.
- Floating: to all same-level and lower-acuity units.
- Scrubs: navy blue.
- Orientation: 1–2 shifts on the unit, tailored to needs and experience.
Additional Notes
- RTO must be provided upfront, limited to 7 or fewer days per 13-week contract.
- Additional RTO will not be approved after submission.
- Artificial nails are prohibited in patient care areas.
