Overview

• 13-week contract

• 12-hour day shifts
• 36-hour weekly guarantee
• Rural hospital setting

Unit Details

• Med/Surg unit
• 32 beds
• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4

Required Qualifications

• RN license
• BLS (AHA)
• ACLS (AHA)
• NIHSS

Clinical Responsibilities / Unit Expectations

• Must titrate drips
• Common titratable/set-rate drips include analgesics for pain, anticoagulants for blood clots, and antihypertensives for blood pressure control
• No tele/monitor techs on the unit; RNs are not required to read their own strips
• Charge nurse takes an assignment
• Nurse aide ratio: 1:5

Patient Population

• CHF
• Hypertension and chest pain work-ups
• COPD exacerbations
• Asthma
• Pneumonia
• Pancreatitis
• Bowel obstructions
• Gastrointestinal bleeding
• Acute renal failure

Scheduling

• Self-scheduling and block scheduling
• Weekend requirement: full- and part-time staff are expected to self-schedule a minimum of six weekend shifts per six-week schedule
• Holiday requirement

Floating

• Floating is determined by the nurse manager and department needs
• May float within Zone 4 in an extreme need

Other Details

• Scrub color: Navy Blue
• Orientation details are assigned during the week of orientation
• Must be in state for the week of orientation, even if first-day modules are remote
