Medical Oncology RN

Overview

  • Contract role in Hilo, Hawaii
  • Day shift: Monday–Friday, 7:30 AM–4:00 PM
  • 13-week contract
  • Unit has 18 semi-private bays

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Hawaii
  • Oncology (3 years of experience)
  • Oncology experience within the last year
  • BLS
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Experience with Epic

Role Responsibilities

  • Independently administer chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapy, and injections
  • Access port-a-caths, PICCs, and Hickman catheters
  • Perform venipuncture, PICC and Hickman dressings, and labs via ports, PICCs, and Hickman catheters
  • Provide clinical care, document patient condition and treatment responses, and monitor intravenous therapies
  • Notify the Medical Oncologist or Nurse Practitioner of unusual occurrences and initiate emergency action when needed
  • Educate patients, families, and caregivers about medications, treatments, side effects, disease process, nutrition, and activity/physical adjustments
  • Verify informed consent before administering chemotherapy
  • Handle, administer, and dispose of hazardous drugs properly and use PPE correctly
  • Maintain a safe environment and follow policies and procedures
