Overview

• Location: Fort Morgan, Colorado
• Setting: Hospital Med/Surg unit
• Unit size: 14 beds
• Shift: Nights
• Hours: 36 per week
• Contract length: 13 weeks

Required Qualifications

• RN license
• BLS (AHA)
• ACLS (AHA)
• Must be comfortable reading strips and escalating concerns to a physician
• Must be able to titrate drips
• Must be in state for the week of orientation, even if first-day modules are remote
• Driver’s license must be submitted

Preferred

• Understanding of working in a rural, lower-resource setting with typically lower patient volumes

Unit Details

• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4
• Common patient types include CHF, hypertension, chest pain work-ups, COPD exacerbations, asthma, pneumonia, pancreatitis, bowel obstructions, gastrointestinal bleeding, and acute renal failure
• No tele/monitor techs on the unit
• Charge nurse takes an assignment
• Nurse aides are available once the floor reaches 9 patients
• Respiratory equipment includes CPAP, BiPAP, high flow, and vents
• Scrub color: Navy Blue

Scheduling and Float

• Self-scheduling and block scheduling are available
• Weekend requirement: minimum of six weekend shifts per six-week schedule
• Holiday requirement: yes
• Call or standby: determined by nurse manager
• Floating: determined by nurse manager and department needs
• May be asked to float to ICU, PCU/Stepdown, and MS-Tele
• Unit orientation date and location are assigned during the week of orientation
