Neuro/Stroke Tele RN

Role

• Neuro/Stroke Tele RN travel contract
• Works on a Neuro/Stroke floor and takes Tele overflow patients

Location

• Bryan, Texas
• Floating may occur between Bryan Campus and CS Campus

Contract Length

• 12 weeks

Required Qualifications

• Active TX RN license
• BLS
• ACLS
• NIHSS
• 2+ years of experience
• Must be able to read and interpret strips independently
• Must pass the Basic Dysrhythmia exam before signing the contract

Preferred

• Neuro experience
• Cardiac experience

Schedule

• 12-hour night shifts, 36 hours per week
• Self-scheduling, finalized by manager
• Block scheduling allowed
• 6 weekend shifts in a 6-week period
• 2 major holidays and 2 minor holidays

Float Scope

• Majority of time floating within the 3 monitor pods
• May occasionally float to MedSurg
• May float to a higher-acuity floor for Tele patients only
• Travelers are first to float

Unit Details

• TELE-Neuro Stroke on the 3rd floor
• Part of a monitor pod with Tele, Tele-Observation, and Tele-Neuro Stroke
• 15 beds
• Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:4 days, 1:5 nights

Clinical Details

• Neuro tele population with large stroke volume
• Other tele patients with neuro etiology, including acute onset seizures
• May take medical and tele overflow patients
• RN does not titrate drips; set rate only
• Common drips: Cardizem, Dobutamine, Milrinone, Amiodarone, Dopamine
• Home regimen CPAP and BiPAP
• Tele monitor techs are staffed 24/7
• RN is required to read and interpret strips
• Patient-free charge nurse
• 2 nurse aides on days, 1 on nights

Additional Notes

• May be asked to precept as needed by the unit
• Call outs are strongly discouraged and could lead to termination
• Navy scrubs required; navy undershirts and navy scrub jackets only
• First day includes HR and unit orientation, followed by 2 shifts with a nurse on the floor
