Overview

  • Travel/Contract RN role in Charlotte, North Carolina.
  • Night shift: 3x12 hours, 18:45–07:15.
  • Contract length: 19 weeks.
  • Unit ratio: 1:4.
  • Unit census/size: up to 24 patients; 24 rooms/beds.
  • Unit type: intermediate population with neurological and medical intermediate patients.
  • Normal population: intermediate, sub-specialized with neurological patients along with medical intermediate patients.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in North Carolina.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing.
  • Intermediate Care (2 years of experience).
  • Intermediate Care experience within the last year.
  • One completed travel assignment.
  • Must be able to titrate LEVO (Levophed).
  • Ability to titrate cardiac drips.
  • Ability to titrate vasoactive drips.
  • Ability to interpret dysrhythmias.
  • Ability to manage dysrhythmias.
  • Ability to manage TR Band.
  • IV insulin protocols.
  • Ability to titrate insulin drips.
  • Feeding tube care and management.
  • Continuous Bladder Irrigation (CBI).
  • Must have a teamwork approach and meet behavioral expectations in all interactions with patients and staff.
  • Must be able to adhere to the call-off policy.
  • Must pass EKG testing prior to start.
  • Certifications required: ACLS issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross, BLS issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross, NIHSS.
  • Experience with Epic.
  • Required skills:
    • Neuro Stepdown, PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown, and Telemetry
    • Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias; telemetry monitoring; use of Rapid Response/Code teams
    • TR Band
    • IV insulin protocols and titration of insulin drips
    • Feeding tube care and management
    • Continuous Bladder Irrigation (CBI) and pre/post hemodialysis management
    • Blood product administration; central line care/management; peripheral line care/management; PICC line management; starting and maintaining IVs
    • Heparin protocols; PCA; thrombolytic agents; titrating cardiac drips and vasoactive drips
    • Aneurysms and repair; craniotomy; CVA; intracranial bleeds; lumbar drains; post TPA care; pre/post neurosurgery; seizure disorders; spinal cord injury; substance withdrawal; traumatic brain injury
    • Surgical drains
    • BiPAP/CPAP management/maintenance; care of ventilated patient; chest tubes-Emerson/PleurEvac; High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC); interpretation of ABGs; nasal cannula; non-invasive airway management; oxygen administration; oxygen tanks; tracheostomy care/management
    • Isolation Precautions/PPE; wound care/wound vac
  • Float scope: other intermediate areas like 6a or 5A PCTU or 5C Cardiac Intermediate, along with critical care (ICU/Stepdown patients).

  • Triage.
  • ICP.
  • Conscious sedation.
  • Charge nurse experience.
  • CCRN.
  • TNCC.
  • CPI.

Schedule and Assignment Details

  • Shift options of 36s and 48s can be offered.
  • Call requirement: none.
  • Weekend requirement: minimum of 3 weekend shifts every 6 weeks.
  • Orientation: 32 hours, including an 8-hour computer class plus two shifts on the unit.
  • Scheduling type: per unit needs.
  • Scrubs: navy blue and white; not provided.
