Schedule

• Nights
• 12-hour shifts: 7a-7:30p or 7p-7:30a
• Every shift huddle at 0700 and 1900
• 36 hours per week

Contract Length

• 13 weeks

Unit Details

• 32-bed unit, all private rooms
• Tele patients: 1:4 ratio
• MedSurg patients: 1:5 ratio
• If mixed MedSurg and Tele, ratio remains 1:4

Required Qualifications

• RN license
• BLS
• ACLS
• NIHSS
• At least 2 years of experience
• Must be able to read and interpret all cardiac rhythms

Preferred Qualifications

• Cerner experience

Patient Population

• Acute/chronic medical conditions
• Post-surgical patients, including bariatrics and total joints
• Urology
• GYN
• Podiatry
• General surgery
• Stroke patients
• Non-titratable drips
• Potential oncology patients

Clinical Responsibilities and Unit Expectations

• No titration of drips
• Set-rate Cardizem, Amiodarone, and Heparin
• Must support bedside shift report, intentional hourly rounding, and medication teaching including side effects
• Fast-paced unit with many admissions and discharges due to surgical volume
• Strict attendance expectations

Equipment and Monitoring

• GE monitors
• CPAP or BiPAP per RT and MD order
• No vents

Floating

• Travelers are first to float
• May float to Mercy Downtown
• May float to any MS Tele unit
• May float to ICU for MedSurg Tele patients
• May float to ER for MedSurg Tele holds

Scheduling Requirements

• 4 weekend shifts in a 4-week schedule
• Weekends are Fri/Sat for nights and Sat/Sun for days
• 1 major and 1 minor holiday minimum
• No call
• May be placed on standby for low census
• If called in from standby, 30-minute response time

Orientation

• 1 to 2 shifts with a preceptor

Dress Code

• Navy blue scrubs
• Undershirt, if worn, must be navy, white, or black
• Scrub jacket must be navy
• No hoodies, sweatshirts, or sweat jackets
