NICU Nurse
Overview
- Travel contract for a NICU nurse in Santa Maria, California
- Contract length: 13 weeks
- Shift: Days, 12 hours
- Hours per week: 36
- Weekend requirement: every other weekend
- Holidays: 2 major holidays
- Call: sometimes, standby for low census
- Self-scheduling is primarily used
Unit Details
- Unit: NICU
- Level 3 NICU
- NICU has 21 beds
- Ratios: 1:1 to 1:3
- Charge nurse: NICU almost always
- Nurse aides: none
- RT 24/7: yes
- Pharmacy 24/7: yes
- IV team: no
- EMR: Cerner
Required Qualifications
- 2 full years of NICU experience
- Active BLS
- Active ACLS
- Active NRP
- Active PALS
- Active CA License
Preferred
- STABLE
- Cooling experience
- Experience with Mother Baby, if floating there
- Comfortable with high frequency oscillators and vents
Float Scope
- May float from NICU to Nursery and Peds
- Mother Baby only if the nurse has that experience
Clinical Notes
- Common patient types include 23 weeks and above, feeders/growers, and no ECMO
- Ventilation equipment includes oscillators, Draeger, CPAP, and high flow nasal cannula
- Floor-specific orientation: NICU 2–3 shifts; Peds 2 shifts
