MedSurg 6E RN

Overview

• Travel contract for an experienced MedSurg RN in Bakersfield, California
• Contract length: 13 weeks
• Shift: Nights, 12 hours
• Hours per week: 36
• No first-time travelers

Required Qualifications

• Active RN license in California
• ACLS
• BLS
• 2 full years of experience
• Must be able to float frequently

Unit Details

• Unit: MedSurg 6E
• General MedSurg unit
• 30 beds
• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 5:1 on days and nights
• No tele on the unit
• No primary cardiac diagnoses
• No cardiac drips; only PO cardiac meds
• Patient types include general Med/Surg, pneumonia, diabetes, COPD, infections, cellulitis, MRSA, isolation, coli, TURPS, and laps

Floating

• May float to MedSurg units
• If floated to MedSurg/Tele, the nurse would only be assigned MedSurg patients
• Must verify orientation to a unit before floating there
• Float destinations listed: 5W, 4W, 4E, and 5E

Schedule

• Every other weekend or equivalent of 4 weekend days in a 4-week schedule
• Day shift weekends are Sat/Sun; night shift weekends are Fri/Sat

Additional Notes

• Charge nurse must have ACLS
• RN is not required to interpret tele strips, but basic arrhythmia skills are expected
• Cerner is used on the unit
