Medical-Surgical RN

Overview

• Travel assignment in Red Bluff, California
• 13-week contract
• 12-hour nights, 36 hours per week
• Unit has 45 beds total, combining adult med-surg and pediatric med-surg telemetry
• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:5

Required Qualifications

• Active California RN license
• BLS
• ACLS
• 2-3 years of experience in Medical-Surgical
• Tele experience

Preferred Qualifications

• PALS
• Pediatric experience

Unit Details

• Common patient types include med-surg, COPD, post-op, GI bleeds, OBGYN surgeries, ortho, sepsis, altered mental status, CP rule-out, stroke, cellulitis, and ETOH withdrawal
• RNs may titrate heparin
• Common drips include heparin and protonix
• Nurses do not need to read and interpret telemetry strips
• Charge nurse acts as team lead and does not take a patient assignment
• Nursing assistants are on the unit, except from 1am-7am
• Equipment includes CPAP, BiPAP, and high-flow

Scheduling and Work Conditions

• Every other weekend or 4 weekend shifts in a 4-week schedule
• Holidays are worked into the permanent staff rotation
• Call or standby is required
• Floating is not required, but may include tele or OB if the traveler has that experience
• Navy blue scrubs
• Unit orientation is 2-3 days, including a half-day scavenger hunt
• Fast-paced unit with average length of stay of 3 days
