Job Description

  • Perform nursing assessments on all patients within 8 hours of admission to develop individualized care plans.
  • Identify patient teaching needs and goals in collaboration with patients, families, and the interdisciplinary team.
  • Provide timely patient information for initial and weekly team conferences.
  • Document assessments, interventions, and patient responses accurately and promptly.
  • Participate in patient rehabilitation programs on assigned units.
  • Deliver direct patient care using the nursing process: assess, plan, implement, and evaluate.
  • Educate patients, families, and significant others based on identified healthcare needs.
  • Initiate discharge planning and patient teaching from the day of admission.
  • Communicate changes in patient status to care providers to ensure continuity and safety.
  • Seek consultation from senior nursing staff for complex clinical decisions.
  • Provide direction, training, and supervision to ancillary nursing personnel.
  • Ensure personal and environmental safety according to hospital and nursing policies.
  • Contribute positively to unit functioning by supporting staff, patients, and families.
  • Maintain communication with management regarding supplies, equipment, and training needs.
  • Provide care in a cost-effective manner while promoting quality patient outcomes.
  • Assume charge nurse responsibilities after orientation, as requested.
  • Pursue professional growth through continuing education and self-study.
  • Prioritize activities and plan effective use of time and staff to meet patient needs.

Required Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • BLS Certification required prior to first shift.
  • ACLS Certification required prior to first shift.
  • Minimum of 2 years bedside clinical experience highly desired.
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system required.

Additional Information

  • The RN supervises Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs), and orientees.
  • Emphasis on patient and employee safety, including safe patient handling, infection control, and workplace hazard awareness.
  • Commitment to teamwork, quality care, and adherence to safety policies is essential.
