Registered Nurse - Operating Room (OR)

Location: Louisville, Kentucky
Employment Type: Clinical Nursing
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

  • Accountable for the care of a group of patients in the Operating Room.
  • Focus on safe, effective, patient- and family-centered care, customer satisfaction, and quality outcomes.
  • Assist in maintaining a financially stable unit and promote professional development with emphasis on evidence-based practice.
  • Supervise licensed and non-licensed staff members.
  • Apply the Kristin M. Swanson Model of Care to assess, develop, implement, and evaluate patient care plans.
  • Provide patient and family education, comfort, and satisfaction.
  • Mentor and precept staff.

Job Responsibilities

  • Perform assessments and reassessments according to policy or patient condition.
  • Initiate, prioritize, implement, and revise plans of care in collaboration with patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams.
  • Monitor and document patient responses to clinical interventions.
  • Facilitate and evaluate education tailored to patient and family needs during stay and at discharge.
  • Delegate tasks appropriately and foster teamwork.
  • Identify and communicate opportunities for improvement.
  • Participate in quality, safety, and service improvement initiatives and comply with regulatory standards.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Kentucky.
  • Minimum 2 years of Operating Room (OR) experience, including experience within the last year.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing.
  • Current certifications in Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
  • Clinical experience in orthopedics, trauma, spine, ENT surgery, and general surgery cases.

Shift Details

  • Day shift: 6:45 AM – 5:15 PM (10-hour shifts).
  • Work includes Fridays.
  • Call every 5th weekend from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM on Saturday and Sunday.
  • Total hours per week: 40.

Additional Notes

  • The RN is expected to function as a mentor/preceptor and participate actively in practice governance and quality improvement efforts.
