Job Opportunity: RN Level 2B Nursery (LTA)

Unit Overview

• Unit Name: Level 2B - Special Care Nursery
• Unit Description: 25-bed unit including Labor & Delivery (L&D), Postpartum (PP), Newborn Nursery (NBN), 2 Operating Rooms (ORs), 2 Antepartum Nursery (ANU) rooms, and Recovery Room (RR).
• Bed Count: 5 L&D rooms, 12 PP beds, 2 ORs at RR, 2 ANU rooms with 4 beds total.
• Average Daily Census: 15-25 mothers, babies, and laboring patients.
• Patient Population: All newborn and maternal patients in the special care nursery setting.

Work Schedule & Staffing

• Hours: 36 hours per week
• Shift: Nights & Every Other Weekend (EOW)
• Shift Details:

  • Day shifts rotate between 7a-7p, 11a-11p, and 7p-7a with 1 night of call.
  • Evening and night shifts do not rotate.
• Floating: Not required
• Clinician to Patient Ratios:

  • L&D: 1:2-3 during evaluations, 1:1 during active labor, magnesium drip, or epidural.
  • PP: 1:3-4

Experience & Skills Required

• Minimum 3 years of nursing experience.
• At least 2 years of NICU experience required.
• Skill sets in Special Care Nursery and Newborn Care.

Documentation & Certifications Required

• Licenses:

  • Valid nursing license with primary source verification (NURSYS and Board of Nursing required). MA Conditional Licenses not accepted.
• Certifications:

  • BLS (AHA preferred)
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
• Health Requirements:

  • Fit Test for N95 respirator within 365 days, updated annually.
  • Influenza vaccine required during flu season (Sept 15 - April 30).
  • TB test documentation within 3 months of start date.
  • MMR vaccination or proof of immunity.
  • Health statement signed by a licensed provider within 365 days.
• Background Checks:

  • Criminal background check within 45 days prior to start.
  • Massachusetts CORI background check within 30 days prior to start.
  • National sex offender registry check within 30 days prior to start.
  • Exclusion checks (OIG, GSA, MassHealth, NH Medicaid) within 30 days prior to start and annually.
• Additional Requirements:

  • MGB Skills Checklist
  • Resume including past 7 years of work experience with city and state.
  • Two recent references (minimum one supervisor or above).
  • Candidate submission coversheet.
  • Respirator Medical Clearance Attestation (if fit test required).
  • Education verification of highest degree achieved.
  • MGB Confirmation of Assignment/POI Form upon acceptance.
