Job Details

  • Unit does NOT accept travel pairs
  • Minimum Experience Required: 18 months
  • First-time travelers accepted
  • Weekend shifts required
  • On-call: No
  • Floating within scope to meet facility needs: Yes
  • Local candidates: Not accepted
  • Pending license: Not accepted (must have Indiana state license and required certifications in hand)
  • Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays
  • Shift options and guaranteed hours:
    • 8 and 10 hour shifts: 40 hours/week
    • 3 shifts of 12 hours: 36 hours/week
    • 4 shifts of 12 hours: 48 hours/week

Unit Information

  • Cardiac and Medical PCU (Progressive Care Unit) – True ICU Stepdown
  • Care includes heart catheterizations, BiPAP, cardiac and vasoactive drips (Levo, Dopa, Nitro, Cardizem, Amio)
  • PCU Crisis Criteria applies

Required Certifications

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA only, RQI acceptable
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA only, RQI acceptable
  • NIH Stroke Certification preferred (required for ER RNs)

Required Skills and Special Requirements

  • Telemetry monitoring
  • IV start
  • Management of cardiac and vasoactive drips
  • Experience with BiPAP and High Flow Oxygen
  • Experience with ventilators (preferred)
  • Charge nurse experience (preferred)
  • Conscious sedation experience (preferred)

Licensing and Compliance

  • Must have valid Indiana RN license verified online within 30 days before start
  • Background checks required within 90 days of start, including 7-year history and international search if applicable
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start
  • Education verification and transcript/diploma required (may be pending at start)
  • Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start
  • Physical exam within 12 months of start
  • Fit mask test within 12 months of start (specific approved respirators required)
  • Immunizations and titers required:
    • TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
    • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required (no declinations accepted)
    • Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required (no declinations accepted)
    • Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination required
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap strongly recommended
    • Seasonal flu vaccination/documentation required (no declinations accepted)

Competency Requirements

  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required
  • Unit competency exam required
  • Color blind testing (Ishihara exam or equivalent) required

Additional Requirements

  • Must complete facility-specific documents and orientation packets prior to start
  • Must provide minimum of 2 professional references from recent employment (supervisory level)
  • Employment application with full work history and explanation of gaps required
  • Skills checklist within 12 months of start and annually thereafter

Important Notes

  • IU Health will not allow Indiana RNs to work at their facilities after 11/30/2024, except for Periop/OR RNs, Allied, and Ambulatory RN travelers (including ENDO, IR RN, PACU, Cath Lab RN, SDS)
  • Floating within scope is expected to meet facility needs

This position is ideal for experienced RNs with telemetry and cardiac stepdown skills who are comfortable working weekends and holidays in a progressive care unit setting.
