RN Medical / Surgical / Telemetry Float Pool (LTA)

Location: Cooperstown, New York
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (13 weeks)

Overview

This position is part of a Float Pool serving multiple facilities within a regional health network. Nurses in this role must be highly skilled, flexible, and able to provide independent, holistic care across various units and hospitals. The role requires adaptability to different patient care environments and the ability to float daily between facilities.

Facilities Covered

• 180-bed teaching and tertiary care hospital with acute inpatient and advanced outpatient services
• Smaller hospitals and critical access facilities offering emergency, inpatient, outpatient, and rehab services
• Locations range within approximately 0-40 miles radius

Float Pool Options & Responsibilities

1. Med/Tele Float Pool

• Support med/telemetry and medical/surgical units across all facilities
• Units include med/tele and inpatient surgery, observation, and critical access hospitals
• Must handle full scope of patient care independently

2. ED/Med Tele Float Pool

• Support med/tele units and emergency departments network-wide
• Med/tele experience preferred; ED experience is a plus but not required
• Must adapt quickly to different unit types and settings

3. Critical Care Float Pool

• Support stepdown and ICU units across the network
• Strong critical care background required
• ED experience highly preferred
• Must float between critical access hospitals and ICU units

Position Expectations

• Daily floating between six different facilities as needed
• Shift assignments communicated approximately 2 hours before start time
• Possible mid-shift floating depending on operational needs
• Requires flexibility, independence, and broad clinical skills

Required Credentials & Compliance for Onboarding

• BLS Certification
• Active Nursing License verified through Nursys
• License/Certificate Verification
• Completion of facility-specific core competencies, unit exam, and skills checklist
• Immunizations and health screenings including MMR, Hepatitis B, Influenza vaccine, TB test, Varicella, Fit Test, Tdap (optional), Annual TB Questionnaire, Physical/Health Statement
• Driver’s License or State ID
• Professional requirements including:

  • Two professional references
  • Criminal background check
  • Resume submission
  • Webchecks and sex offender registry checks (national and state)
  • Education and employment verification
  • Drug screening
  • Completion of client forms including security and confidentiality agreements
