Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Aurora, Colorado

Job Details

  • Shift: 3x12 hour rotating shifts
  • Weekend Requirement: 6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule period
  • Years of Experience Required: Minimum 2 years
  • First-time Travelers: Accepted
  • On-call: Not required
  • Floating: Yes, floating within scope to meet facility/unit needs
  • Nurse-to-Patient Ratios: Based on acuity; ranges from 1:1, 1:2, to 2:1
  • Charting System: Epic
  • Scrub Color: Navy
  • Unit Description:
    • 24-bed Cardiothoracic ICU specializing in care for critically ill adults
    • Services include open-heart surgeries, ventricular assist devices, heart and lung transplants, ECMO, aortic aneurysm repair, vascular and thoracic surgeries
    • Multidisciplinary team focused on holistic health, supportive education, and improving outcomes

Licensure & Certifications Required

  • Colorado RN License or Compact RN License
  • AHA BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)

Staffing & Facility Info

  • Total staffed beds: 17 (unit size context)

Time Off Restrictions

  • Maximum 10 Return to Office (RTO) days approved
  • No RTO allowed during these blackout periods:
    • December 21, 2025 – January 3, 2026
    • March 14 – March 21, 2026
    • May 8 – May 11, 2026
    • May 21 – May 27, 2026
  • Flexibility may be considered for harder-to-fill positions

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • I9 or Attestation
  • Driver’s License/State ID (clear copies front/back)
  • E-Verify or Attestation
  • Proof of Name Change (if applicable)
  • Background Checks including:
    • 7-year background check within 60 days of start
    • SSN Trace, Colorado Board of Investigations search, Child Abuse/Neglect search (for Pediatrics only)
    • Education verification (accredited nursing school)
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 60 days of start
  • Education Verification (transcript/diploma acceptable)
  • References: 2 references from last 2 years, including one from last year, from Charge RN, Manager, or Supervisor
  • Employment Application and Work History Verification covering last 3 years
  • Colorado CAPS Check Results within 60 days of start

Competency & Testing Requirements

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (updated annually)
  • Competency Exam (score ≥ 80%, updated annually)
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (updated annually for ICU/critical care units)
  • Core Parts I, II, III (updated annually, score ≥ 80%)
  • OSHA Mandatory Training (updated annually, score ≥ 80%)
  • Color Blind Testing: Ishihara exam required prior to start (online testing not accepted)

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical Exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, DO, NP, or PA
  • Fit Mask Test within 12 months of start, updated annually (specific mask types required)
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within 10 years or signed declination within 1 year
  • Negative TB test or Chest X-Ray within 1 year, updated annually
  • TB Questionnaire annually if positive TB test
  • Immunizations or titers required for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination)
    • Varicella
  • Drug Testing within 30 days of start and updated annually (specific drug panel required)
  • Seasonal Flu Vaccination or facility-specific exemption required during flu season
  • COVID-19 Vaccination or signed declination (Dose 1, Fully Vaccinated, Booster)

  • Nurse-to-patient ratios vary by patient acuity and unit needs
  • Floating between like units expected
  • Multidisciplinary team environment with advanced cardiothoracic care
  • Weekend shifts required as part of schedule
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
