Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Saint Louis, Missouri
Facility Type: Short Term Acute Care, Magnet & Teaching Hospital, Level I Trauma Center
Contract Length: 12 weeks


Job Details

  • Specialty: Medical-Surgical / Telemetry
  • Start Date: Approximately 3-4 weeks from compliance clearance
  • Patient Ratio: 1:4
  • Experience Required: Minimum 2 years
  • First-time Travelers: Accepted
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • On-call: Not required
  • Floating: Yes, within service line as needed
  • Local Candidates: Not accepted (must live at least 75 miles away)
  • Pending License: Accepted
  • Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
  • Time Off Restrictions: Up to 2 time off requests allowed, max 40 hours (5 days) during contract

Unit & Clinical Responsibilities

  • Care for patients waiting admission to inpatient units, starting care in the Emergency Department until beds are available
  • Interpretation of dysrhythmias (must pass Relias EKG exam)
  • IV insulin protocols
  • Feeding tube care and management
  • Pre/post hemodialysis management
  • Accessing ports and blood product administration
  • Central line and peripheral line care/management, including PICC line management
  • Starting IVs and managing heparin protocols
  • Management of cardiac drips (excluding triation, PCA, thrombolytic agents)
  • Care for patients with substance withdrawal, orthopedic trauma, traction
  • Oxygen therapy including nasal cannula, oxygen face masks, portable oxygen tanks
  • Isolation precautions

Required Certifications

  • ACLS (AHA only)
  • BLS (AHA only)
  • Must pass Relias Basic Dysrhythmia or equivalent EKG competency exam
  • Other certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., PALS, NRP, TNCC, CPI/MAB, NIH Stroke Certification) — check unit-specific requirements

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Government-issued ID (Driver’s License/State ID)
  • Criminal Background Check (7-year search, statewide, nationwide, and international if applicable) within 6 months of start
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks quarterly
  • Education verification of highest nursing degree (no pending at start)
  • State-specific background checks and registries as applicable
  • Professional license primary source verification (Missouri licenses via NURSYS)
  • Drug testing within 1 year of start, including specific drug panels, must remain valid throughout assignment
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start
  • Fit mask testing (N95) annually, with onsite options if needed
  • Immunizations and health screenings:
    • Tdap vaccine or declination (required)
    • TB testing or questionnaire (2 negative PPDs or equivalent)
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination/declination as applicable
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption during flu season
  • Facility-specific documents including HIPAA acknowledgement, confidentiality form, latex allergy questionnaire, hand hygiene and dress code policies, and others must be completed and signed prior to start
  • Competency exams including medication/pharmacology and unit-specific skills checklist required annually
  • References: Two professional references required (supervisors preferred)

  • Charting system: EPIC
  • Scrub color: Navy Blue
  • Parking: Monthly passes available with fees; free parking for straight night shifts; day/night rotation requires paid pass
  • Must adhere to facility policies including fingernail, dress code, and hand hygiene policies
  • Floating within scope of practice may be required to meet facility needs

This position offers a structured 12-week travel contract with comprehensive support and clear compliance requirements at a major Magnet and Level I Trauma teaching hospital in Saint Louis, Missouri.
