Travel RN Opportunity – Step Down/PCU

Location: Springfield, Missouri
Facility Type: Cardiac Surgery Intermediate Care Unit (Step Down/PCU)


Position Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (RN) – Step Down/PCU
  • Shift: Night shift (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
  • Assignment Length: 13 weeks
  • Weekly Hours: 36 or 48 hours (flexible, must be specified on submission)
  • Weekend Hours: As required by facility
  • Call Requirements: None
  • Float Requirements: Rotational float to critical care cluster or med/surg units

Licensure & Certifications

  • Required Licensure: Current RN license eligible or active in Missouri
  • Required Certifications: BLS and ACLS (American Heart Association only)
  • Experience: Minimum 1 year in Step Down/PCU, inpatient setting

Unit Information

  • Unit Type: Cardiac Surgery Intermediate Care (Step Down/PCU)
  • Number of Beds: 26
  • Patient Ratios: 3:1 or 4:1
  • Patient Types: Cardiac/thoracic surgery, vascular surgery, alcohol withdrawal, respiratory distress, insulin drips
  • Equipment Used: Philips monitors, chest tubes, arterial lines, wound vacs, pacer boxes, pacing wires, drains, EKOS, Nicom, BIPAP, Airvo
  • Electronic Medical Record (EMR): EPIC

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care using the nursing process: assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation
  • Coordinate patient care with ancillary departments
  • Maintain patient rights and confidentiality
  • Evaluate care effectiveness of other caregivers
  • Adhere to Missouri Nurse Practice Act and facility standards
  • Maintain professional accountability and align with facility mission and values

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

  • Stand and walk most of the shift
  • Frequent bending, stooping, lifting, and turning patients with assistance
  • Ability to push, pull, grip up to 50 lbs., pinch up to 15 lbs., kneel, crouch, and crawl minimally
  • Exposure to blood and body fluids
  • May require flexible scheduling based on patient care needs

Dress Code

  • Scrubs must be black or Mercy-logo attire only
  • No other scrub colors or attire allowed

Additional Notes

  • Flu vaccination or approved exemption required for all travelers from November 1 to April 1 (no declinations accepted)
  • Night shift orientation occurs on day shift and requires full availability for the orientation week
  • Flexible scheduling options available but must be indicated on submission form
  • Time off requests (RTO) must be made on the back end of the assignment; no RTO in the first week; one holiday RTO allowed per assignment
