Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position
Location: Utica, New York
Specialty: Med Surg with occasional stroke and Peritoneal Dialysis patients
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Med Surg unit with occasional stroke patients
- Patient ratios:
- Days: 1:5-6
- Nights: 1:6-7
- Must have experience with stroke patients and occasional Peritoneal Dialysis patients
Requirements
- New York RN license
- Minimum 2 years of experience in Med Surg or relevant specialty
- BLS certification
- NIH Stroke Certification
- EPIC experience required
- Ability to work within a 75-mile local radius (locals accepted)
- Return to Office (RTO): Only one holiday off, total time off 7 days or less
Certifications & Competencies
- BLS (AHA strongly preferred)
- ACLS (AHA strongly preferred)
- PALS (if applicable, AHA strongly preferred)
- NIH Stroke Certification (valid for 2 years)
- TNCC (for ER staff)
- Medication/Pharmacology Competency Exam (minimum 80% score)
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (required for ICU, PCU, ER, CT ICU, and 7th Floor Med Surg; expires every 3 years)
- Harassment Prevention Training Certificate (New York state required, annual)
- Color Blind Testing (required prior to start)
- Competency Exam (minimum 80% or meet Angoff score)
Health & Background Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start
- Fit Mask test within 1 year and updated annually (specific N95 masks required)
- Negative TB test or Chest X-Ray within 1 year (with specific documentation requirements)
- Immunizations or positive titers required for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (titer, declination, or vaccine series)
- Varicella (titer, vaccine, or history of chickenpox)
- Drug screening: 9 Panel Drug Screen within 1 year of start
- Seasonal Flu vaccination or declination required during flu season (Sept 1 - Mar 31)
- Pneumonia vaccination or declination required
- COVID-19 vaccines preferred but not required
Documentation & Compliance
- Government issued photo ID (Driver’s License/State ID)
- Emergency Contact Form (required prior to start)
- Background checks including 7-year search, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG (updated annually)
- Education Verification and Florida Education Audit Confirmation (for RN/LPN staff)
- State License verification (primary source online)
- Facility-specific documents including:
- Photo for badge (headshot, plain background)
- Job Description acknowledgment
- Welcome Packet acknowledgment
- Omnicell form (nursing staff)
- Pneumococcal declination form if applicable
- Online learning modules completion prior to first shift
- References:
- 2 professional references for travel, allied, per diem acute care
- 1 professional reference for per diem non-acute care
- Skills Checklist (annual requirement)
Additional Notes
- Candidates must be prepared to complete all required modules and documentation prior to starting
- Compliance with OSHA standards for respirator use and facial hair is required
- Remediation process in place for Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam failures
