Registered Nurse (MS/Tele RN) - Rochester, NY (Travel/Contract)

Position Details

  • Patient Population: Cardiac and stroke patients
  • Unit Ratios:
    • Day/Evening: 5:1 (stretch 6-7)
    • Night: 6-7:1 (stretch 8-10 if staff calls in)
  • Float Requirements: Yes, may float within scope to MS, ICU, ED units
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (EOW)
  • Block Schedule: Attempts to accommodate but not guaranteed
  • Locals Accepted: No (within 75 miles)
  • Pending License Accepted: No
  • On-call: No
  • Years of Experience Required: Minimum 1 year
  • First-timers Accepted: Yes

Certifications Required

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA provider/instructor/RQI accepted
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA provider/instructor/RQI accepted, as required by unit
  • NIH Stroke Certification - Required for all RNs except birthing units & OR; updated annually
  • Other certifications may be required depending on unit (PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM)

Clinical Skills & Special Requirements

  • Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
  • Use of Rapid Response Teams
  • Peripheral line care/management (PICC and central lines)
  • Oxygen delivery devices: nasal cannula, oxygen face masks, portable oxygen tanks
  • Non-invasive airway management
  • Isolation precautions
  • Experience with hoyer lifts
  • Charting system: Epic preferred
  • Scrub color: Any combination of navy and white

Support Staff & Environment

  • PCTs available for vital signs, blood glucose checks, EKGs, and activities of daily living
  • In-house phlebotomy team performs peripheral lab draws; nursing responsible for PICC and central lines

Health & Compliance Requirements

Candidates must complete health-related requirements and lab work within 5 days of signing the contract, including but not limited to:

  • Physical exam (within 1 year, updated annually)
  • Fit mask test (annual)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray (within 1 year)
  • Immunizations or titers for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B
    • Varicella
  • Drug screening (within 30 days of start)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination (during flu season)
  • Eye exam (Snellen, within 1 year)
  • COVID vaccination documentation preferred

Background & Verification Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check (felony checks)
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks (within 3 months of start, monthly updates)
  • Education verification from primary source (no hard copy degrees)
  • Foreign equivalency evaluation if applicable
  • State license primary source verification within 30 days of start
  • NURSYS verification for RN license within 30 days
  • Work history verification (minimum 2 past employments)
  • References (2 within 3 years) required for Aya candidates
  • Facility-specific documents and attestations to be completed prior to start

Additional Notes

  • No holiday requests off allowed; maximum 7 days off total
  • Photo for badge required (passport-style with solid background)
  • Epic charting system used
  • Color blind testing required once (not annually)

This position is ideal for a Registered Nurse with at least 1 year of experience who is comfortable working in a cardiac/stroke telemetry setting, able to float between MS, ICU, and ED units, and meets the specified certification and health requirements.
