Description

Registered Nurse (MS/Tele RN) - Rochester, NY

Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Start Date: January 20, 2026
Shift: 3x12 hour night shifts
Weekend: Every other weekend
Location: Rochester, New York


Requirements

  • Licensure: Must have a valid New York RN license in hand (no exceptions)
  • Experience: Minimum 1 year of nursing experience
  • Certifications:
    • ACLS (AHA Provider/Instructor/RQI acceptable)
    • BLS (AHA Provider/Instructor/RQI acceptable)
  • Charting: EPIC experience required
  • Patient Ratio: Able to manage 1:5 to 1:7 patient ratio on MedSurg
  • Floating: Floating to other units is required
  • Distance: Candidates must live more than 75 miles from the facility (no locals accepted)
  • First Time Travelers: Accepted

Unit & Patient Population

  • 26-bed unit specializing in MedSurg care
  • Patient population includes CHF, acute MI, post-device care (pacemakers), and arrhythmias
  • Cardiac monitoring and emergency response skills required:
    • Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
    • Use of Rapid Response/Code teams
  • IV therapy and phlebotomy skills: Peripheral line care/management
  • Respiratory care skills: Nasal cannula, oxygen face masks, portable oxygen tanks, non-invasive airway management
  • Knowledge of isolation precautions

  • Tertiary Care Hospital
  • Total staffed beds: 528
  • Scrub color: Any combination of navy and white
  • Charting system: Epic

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License/State ID)
  • 7-year criminal background check (including felony checks) within 3 months of start
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 3 months of start, updated monthly
  • Education verification from primary source (no hard copy degrees)
  • Foreign equivalency evaluation if applicable
  • Transcript/diploma if education verification is not on file
  • Primary source verification of state license within 30 days of start
  • NURSYS verification within 30 days of start
  • Various certifications as required by unit (PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM, NIH Stroke Certification, etc.)
  • Orientation safety manual acknowledgement
  • Medication/pharmacology competency exam as required
  • Color blind testing (one-time)
  • Competency exams as required by specialty
  • Clear, passport-style photo for badge
  • Completion of facility-specific modules prior to start
  • Pre-employment compliance attestations and new hire forms

Health & Safety Requirements (Must be completed within 5 days of contract signing)

  • Physical exam (within 1 year, updated annually)
  • Fit mask testing (annual)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray (within 1 year) or TB questionnaire
  • Immunizations or titers for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (surface antibody positive, completed series, or declination)
    • Varicella
  • Drug screening within 30 days of start
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination (deadline December 3)
  • Eye exam (Snellen) within 1 year
  • COVID vaccination copy preferred but not required

Additional Notes

  • References required for Aya candidates only (2 references within 3 years)
  • Employment application and skills checklist required annually
  • Work history verification required (minimum 2 past employments)
  • State-specific documents such as NYS Nurse Aide Registry, criminal background fingerprinting, disciplinary action search, sex offender registry, and Medicaid exclusion list as applicable

This position is ideal for experienced RNs with MS/Tele skills who hold a current NY license and are comfortable working night shifts in a tertiary care setting with a cardiac patient population.
