Registered Nurse (Critical Care Float RN) - Travel/Contract
Location: Utica, New York
Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 13 weeks)
Shift: Variable 3x12 hour shifts, Days 0700-1900
Job Description
- Provide high-quality patient care across multiple critical care units including ICU, Step-Down, and other high-acuity areas as needed.
- Assess, plan, and implement individualized care.
- Manage complex patient conditions and respond effectively in fast-paced environments.
- Flexibility and strong critical thinking skills are essential.
Requirements
- Active New York RN License (unrestricted)
- Minimum 2 years of recent critical care experience (ICU, Step-Down, or similar)
- BLS and ACLS certifications required (AHA preferred)
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification preferred
- EPIC electronic health record experience preferred
Certifications & Training
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA strongly preferred
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA strongly preferred
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - AHA strongly preferred
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) required for ER staff
- NIH Stroke Certification required for ICU, PCU, ER, CT ICU, and certain med/surg units (valid for 2 years)
- NY Harassment Prevention Training Certificate (annual requirement)
Competencies
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (minimum 80% score or meet/exceed Angoff score)
- Color Blind Testing (required prior to start)
- Competency Exam (minimum 80% score or meet/exceed Angoff score)
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam required for ICU, PCU, ER, CT ICU, and certain med/surg units (expires every 3 years)
Health & Compliance Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start
- Fit Mask test within 1 year of start, updated annually (specific N95 masks required)
- Negative TB test or Chest X-Ray within 1 year of start (PPD, Quantiferon Gold acceptable; Tspot not accepted)
- Immunizations or positive titers required for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (titer, declination, or vaccine series)
- Varicella (titer, vaccine, or documented history of chickenpox)
- 9 Panel Drug Screen within 30 days of start (instant drug screen acceptable)
- Seasonal Flu Vaccination or Declination required during flu season (9/1 - 3/31)
- Pneumonia Vaccination or Declination required
Additional Requirements
- 2 Professional References for Travel, Allied, or Per Diem Acute Care within 3 years of start
- Skills Checklist required annually
- Facility-specific documents including photo for badge, job description acknowledgment, and completion of online learning modules prior to first shift
