Job Details

- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week, 12-hour shifts (6:45 PM – 7:15 AM)
- Patient Ratio: 1:5
- Unit: Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
- Weekend Requirement: 8 weekend shifts in a 6-week schedule period (combination of Friday, Saturday, Sunday)
- Floating: Regular floating between departments, units, and facility as needed
- Local Candidates: Not accepted (must live at least 75 miles from facility)
- Pending License: Not accepted
- Return to Office Restrictions: No more than 7 days
- Guaranteed Hours: Minimum 3 shifts per 13 weeks
Experience Requirements
- Years of Experience: Minimum 2 years required
- Preferred Experience: Previous charge nurse and teaching hospital experience preferred
- Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required; first-time travelers accepted
Certifications Required
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
Skills and Competencies Required
- Work Settings: Medical-Surgical/Telemetry, Telemetry, Cardiac Telemetry, ER Holding, Neuro Stepdown, PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown
- Cardiac Monitoring & Emergency Response: Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, telemetry monitoring (unit and remote), use of Rapid Response Teams
- Cardiovascular Care: Post cardiac care, angiogram, post-MI, pre/post cardiac catheterization and surgery
- Endocrine/Metabolic: IV insulin protocols
- Gastrointestinal: Feeding tube care and management
- Genitourinary/Renal: Pre/post hemodialysis management, renal failure care
- IV Therapy/Phlebotomy: Blood product administration, central line care/management, phlebotomy, peripheral line care/management, PICC line management, starting IVs
- Medications: Heparin protocols, management of cardiac drips (no titration), PCA, procedural sedation administration, titration of cardiac drips
- Neurological/Psychiatric: Stroke (CVA) care
- Orthopedics: Peripheral nerve block catheters, total joint replacements
- Plastics: Surgical drains
- Respiratory: Chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac), external CPAP/BIPAP, high flow nasal cannula (HFNC), nasal cannula, oxygen face masks, non-invasive airway management, tracheostomy management
- Professional Skills: Isolation precautions, wound care, wound vac management
Preferred Skills
- IV therapy/phlebotomy: Accessing ports
- Oncology: Monitoring chemotherapy

Compliance and Documentation Requirements
- Government-issued ID required
- Criminal background check within 6 months of start (including statewide, nationwide, sex offender, and international if applicable)
- Quarterly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks
- Education verification of highest nursing degree (cannot pend at start)
- Professional license primary source verification (Missouri licenses verified via NURSYS)
- Drug testing within 1 year of start, must include comprehensive drug panel and be valid throughout assignment
- Physical exam within 1 year of start
- Fit mask testing (N95) required and must be renewed annually
- Immunizations and titers required or declination forms for:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap
- Measles (Rubeola)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Varicella
- Hepatitis B declination required (not mandatory vaccine)
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year of start (2-step PPD or equivalent)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season (Sept 30 - April 1)
- Various facility-specific compliance documents including HIPAA acknowledgement, latex allergy questionnaire, confidentiality form, regulatory compliance education, hand hygiene, fingernail, and dress code policies
- Unit-specific competency exams including medication test/pharmacology, dysrhythmia/EKG competency, and oncology competency if applicable
- Skills checklist required within 1 year of start (oncology skills checklist required for Med Surg-Oncology unit)
- Two professional references required (supervisors preferred)
Additional Notes
- Floating between units and departments is expected within scope of practice
- Block scheduling is not accommodated
- Candidates must complete required orientation and training modules prior to start
- Candidates must have an Aya Healthcare badge and facility photo badge
- No on-call shifts required for this position
This position is ideal for RNs with at least 2 years of experience, comfortable working night shifts in a PCU setting with a variety of complex patient care skills, and who meet the comprehensive certification and compliance requirements. First-time travel nurses are welcome to apply.
