Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Lafayette, Indiana
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Work on a Mixed Acuity Unit including medical patients and some PCU level of care patients.
- Unit specialties include oncology, stroke, cardiac, gastrointestinal, and pulmonary care.
- Patient ratios: MS patients 1:5-6, PCU patients 1:3-4.
- Care includes unstable strokes, BiPap, Cardizem, Amiodarone, Insulin drips.
- Must have solid neurological (Neuro) experience.
- Accepting MS/Telemetry or PCU RNs.
- Shift: 3 shifts of 12 hours each (3x12's).
- Locals are NOT accepted.
Required Certifications
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only, RQI acceptable
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only, RQI acceptable
- NIH Stroke Certification (required for ER RNs)
- Current Indiana state, compact, or temporary nursing license must be in hand prior to start

Licensure & Compliance
- Pending license accepted if Indiana state, compact, or temporary license is obtained before start
- Effective 11/30/24, Indiana RNs will not be allowed to work at these facilities except for Periop/OR RN travelers and allied/ambulatory RN travelers (Periop includes ENDO, IR RN, PACU, Cath Lab RN, SDS)
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Valid Driver’s License or Passport (clear copy)
- Background checks including:
- 7 years lived/worked history
- SSN Trace, County Criminal, Statewide, National Sex Offender, FACIS Level III
- Education verification
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
- Transcript/Diploma (official copy required, may be pending at start)
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam
- Unit Competency Exam
- Color Blind Testing (Ishihara exam or equivalent, 100% minimum score)
- Physical Exam within 12 months of start
- Fit Mask Test within 12 months (approved respirators only)
- Immunizations and Titers:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (preferred but not required)
- Negative TB test or Chest X-Ray within 1 year
- Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations accepted
- Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination required
- Drug Testing: Negative 10 Panel Drug Screen within 12 months
- Flu Vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required for 2025-26 season (no declinations accepted)
- References: Minimum 2 from recent employment verified within 2 years, must be from charge/manager/supervisor or above
- Employment application current with full work history and explanations for gaps over 30 days
- Skills Checklist within 12 months and annually updated
- Completion of facility-specific compliance and orientation documents prior to start
Additional Notes
- Must confirm experience with drips and procedures: Cardizem, Amiodarone, Lasix, Insulin, Post Heart Cath, Post Pacemaker
- HIPAA Acknowledgement required
- On-site Fit Testing is limited and must be approved if needed
- On-site PAPR available with prior approval
- Strict compliance with IU Health policies and documentation requirements
This position is ideal for experienced RNs with strong neurological skills looking for a 13-week travel contract in a dynamic mixed acuity acute care setting.
