Job Summary: Registered Nurse - Travel/Contract

Location: Elizabeth, New Jersey
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Hours: 36 hours per week
Schedule: Every other weekend (Saturday/Sunday)

Job Details

• Specialty: Registered Nurse
• Experience Required: Minimum 1.5 years in specialty
• Prior Travel Experience: Required (first-time travelers not accepted)
• Float Requirements: Will float to 7South Telemetry unit if needed; additional float units possible based on skill set and hospital needs
• Patient Care:

  • Care for patients on ventilators with pressure support
  • Manage sedation drips
  • Care for stroke and cardiac arrest patients
  • Must be able to identify cardiac rhythms
• Patient Ratio: 1 nurse to 2-3 patients
• Required Equipment Experience:

  • Baxter IV pump
  • Ventilators
  • Bedside and central hemodynamic monitors
• Dress Code: Scrub color gray
• Travel Pairs: Not accepted

Required Certifications

• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
• NIH Stroke Certification

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

• Background Checks:

  • Criminal background check within 30 days of start
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
  • State-specific exclusions list (New Jersey Department of Treasury) within 30 days of start and for extensions
• Health Documents:

  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray as per facility guidelines
  • Physical exam within the last 12 months, cleared to perform essential job functions and free of communicable disease
  • Drug screening within 30 days of start
  • Seasonal influenza vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption (required annually)
  • Fit test and respiratory medical clearance (mandatory on-site fit testing)
  • Immunizations and titers for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B, Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap as required
  • Latex allergy questionnaire if applicable
• Competency Exams:

  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam within 72 hours of signing
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam within 72 hours of signing
  • Color blind testing within one year if job tasks require it
• Pass/Fail Testing:

  • Pharmacology and Basic EKG exams required for clinical staff in specified units
• References:

  • Two references within the last 2 years, including at least one managerial reference
• Employment History:

  • Employment application or resume with 7 years of work history
  • Work history verification required for New Jersey candidates (minimum 1 year prior to start, allowing 30-day gaps)

Additional Notes

• Must complete facility-specific floating policy for every new assignment or site transfer
• Must complete annual education sign-off and review facility annual education materials
• Must complete vendor medical clearance if history of positive TB
• Must complete required orientation and safety manual acknowledgments
• Must comply with all facility-specific documentation and training requirements prior to start

This position is ideal for experienced travel RNs with critical care skills, ventilator experience, and prior travel assignments.
