Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Kansas City, Missouri
Specialty: Registered Nurse (RN)
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Unit: MS/Tele / PCU
  • Experience Required: Minimum 2 years in specialty
  • First-time Travelers: Accepted
  • Weekend Shifts: 8 weekend shifts required in a 6-week schedule period (Friday/Saturday/Sunday combination)
  • On-call: Not required
  • Floating: Regular floating within scope may be required between departments, units, and facilities
  • Block Scheduling: Not accommodated
  • Local Candidates: Not accepted (home address must be at least 75 miles from facility)
  • Pending License: Accepted
  • Return to Office (RTO) Restrictions: No more than 7 days
  • Guaranteed Hours: 3 shifts per 13 weeks (cancelled shifts must be regular shift length)

Patient Population & Special Requirements

Primary patients include those who have undergone:

  • Bariatric surgery
  • Urology cases (e.g., TURP, TURBT with CBI, nephrectomy, ileal conduit creation, nephroureterectomy)
  • Hepatobiliary surgeries (e.g., Whipple, liver resection, gastric stimulator, complex biliary cases)
  • Colorectal surgeries (e.g., colon resection, ostomy creation and takedown, surgical oncology)
  • Trauma patients, especially abdominal injuries
  • Patients with necrotizing soft tissue infections requiring serial debridement and Wound Vac changes

Certifications Required

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • NIH Stroke Certification
  • Other certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., ACLS, PALS, TNCC, CPI/MAB) – verify unit-specific requirements

Licensure & Compliance

  • Must have valid RN license (Missouri or compact license accepted)
  • Pending licenses accepted
  • Primary source verification of professional license required
  • Background checks including criminal, statewide, and federal exclusions required
  • Drug testing within 1 year of start, must include standard panels and be valid throughout assignment
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start required
  • Fit mask testing (N95) required and must be renewed annually
  • Immunizations and health screenings required:
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
    • Tdap vaccine or declination
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination/declination
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption during flu season
  • Other facility-specific health and compliance documents required (e.g., HIPAA acknowledgement, hand hygiene policy, dress code policy)

Competencies & Exams

  • Unit-specific competency exams required and must be updated annually
  • Medication test/pharmacology competency exam required
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required for certain units

Additional Requirements

  • Must complete facility orientation modules prior to start (approximately 16 hours)
  • Must provide government-issued ID (e.g., driver’s license or state ID)
  • Must submit employment application and professional references (two professional references preferred)
  • Skills checklist required within 1 year of start, including oncology skills if applicable

Travel Experience

  • Prior travel experience is not required for this position

This position offers a challenging and diverse patient population with opportunities to develop skills in multiple surgical and trauma areas. Candidates should be flexible with floating and weekend shifts and prepared to meet comprehensive compliance and certification requirements.
