Registered Nurse - Pediatric Acute Care Float Pool

Location: Kansas City, Missouri
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Overview

• Float positions within the Missouri facility, expected to float to other similar pediatric units on-site within the same campus.
• Minimal chance of floating to Kansas; therefore, candidates must have or be willing to obtain both Missouri and Kansas nursing licenses.
• Floating limited to similar specialties; no floating outside of acuity level.
• Pediatric Acute Care experience or Pediatric Med Surge experience considered.
• Day shift, 3x12 hour shifts.
• Local candidates are acceptable.
• Must be licensed to work in Missouri.
• Clean Nursys verification required.
• Preference for travelers with flexible schedules.

Experience Requirements

• Specialty: Registered Nurse (Pediatrics)
• Minimum 1 year prior travel experience required.
• Pediatric Acute Care or Pediatric Med Surge experience preferred.

Certifications Required

• ACLS (AHA only; RQI not accepted)
• BLS (AHA only; HeartCode accepted; RQI not accepted)
• PALS (AHA only; HeartCode accepted; required for all RNs except Case Managers)
• NRP (AHA 8th Edition Advanced Certification, as required)
• TNCC (required for ER/Peds ER)
• CPI (required for Behavioral Health Techs and RNs going to Crisis Center; not required for 5 West Behavioral Health RNs)

Licensure

• Must have Missouri nursing license.
• Kansas nursing license required or willingness to obtain.
• Nursys verification required for all RNs.
• Primary source verification of state license required.

Compliance & Background Checks

• Government issued photo ID required during hours of service.
• Background check within 3 months of start, including all counties worked or lived in past 7 years, sex offender search, and statewide searches for Missouri and Kansas.
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated every 6 months.
• Missouri Highway Patrol Check required.

Health & Immunization Requirements

• Physical exam attesting ability to meet physical demands, updated annually.
• Tdap vaccination within 10 years of start.
• Negative TB test or chest x-ray per facility protocol.
• Annual TB questionnaire.
• Proof of immunizations or titers for:

  • Rubeola (Measles)
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Hepatitis B (3 vaccines, titer, or declination)
  • Varicella
• Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days prior to start.
• Current seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption (flu declinations not accepted).
• Respiratory safety clearance or questionnaire as applicable.

Competency & Testing

• Pediatric pharmacology competency exam required.
• Pediatric competency exam required.
• Medication calculation/dosage test during orientation (100% passing required; three attempts allowed).
• Color blind testing required (except non-clinical).
• Orientation safety manual acknowledgement required.
• Pass/fail testing (EKG/Medication) required for RNs only.

Additional Requirements

• References: 2 supervisory references or performance evaluations verified within 1 year of start.
• Performance evaluation if employed with agency >12 months.
• Pediatric skills checklist required when applicable.
• Employment application/resume required.
• Facility-specific health forms, TB questionnaire, medication review packet, and other onboarding documents must be completed prior to or shortly after start.
• Must carry government-issued photo ID during hours of service.

Schedule & Shift Details

• Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (3x12s).
• January start dates available.

Notes

• Travelers must have flexible schedules due to floating requirements.
• Local candidates are acceptable at the same rate.
• Floating will only be to similar pediatric specialties within the facility.
