Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Step Down Unit
Location: Saint Joseph, Missouri
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Seeking a Registered Nurse for a Step Down unit. This is a travel/contract position requiring compliance with specific certifications, background checks, and health documentation.
Required Certifications
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support): AHA only (RQI acceptable)
- BLS (Basic Life Support): AHA (RQI acceptable) or ARC (must state "Basic Life Support")
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support): AHA only (RQI acceptable)
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course): Required prior to start for Emergency Department RNs; ICU RNs only if assignment exceeds 1 year
- NIH Stroke Certification: Required annually for Acute Hospital RN in Step Down and related units
- State License Verification: Primary source verification required within 30 days of start
- NURSYS Verification: Required
- IV Certification: Required for LPNs, must be valid in Missouri or accepted by Missouri
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute): Required if extending past initial contract; Emergency Department and Mental Health RNs/LPNs must attend Advanced CPI onsite
Required Exams and Competencies
- Basic Dysrhythmia Exam: Required for all RNs and LPN/LVNs in Acute Hospital settings; must score 84% or higher; ICU unit has a one-attempt policy
- Medication/Pharmacology Competency Exam: Required as applicable
- Competency Exam: Required as applicable to profession/specialty
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam: Initial exam must be dated within 1 year of start; remediation process applies for non-ICU candidates
Background Checks and Verifications
- National Criminal Check
- State Searches (10 years of all addresses with aliases)
- County Searches (10 years of all addresses with aliases)
- SSN Trace with all aliases
- National Sex Offender Check
- FACIS Level 3
- EPLS/GSA/SAM
- HHS/OIG
- Education Verification (official transcript or diploma with graduation date)
- Missouri EDL Search (within 30 days of start)
Health and Immunization Requirements
- Physical Exam: Physician statement within last 12 months (not required annually)
- Fit Mask Testing: Completed onsite at orientation
- TB Screening: Negative PPD, Q-Gold, or T-SPOT within 1 year and updated annually; if positive, chest x-ray within 6 months and annual TB questionnaire required
- MMR (Rubeola, Mumps, Rubella): 2 vaccines, positive titer, or declination accepted; if no proof, first vaccine required prior to start, second vaccine within 28 days
- Hepatitis B: Proof of vaccination series, titer, or declination; if no proof, first vaccine required prior to start, subsequent vaccines per schedule
- Varicella: 2 vaccines, positive titer, or declination; if no proof, first vaccine required prior to start, second vaccine within 28 days
- Drug Testing: Required within 30 days of start; must include a comprehensive panel of substances
- Flu Vaccine: Required during flu season or agency-approved medical/religious exemption; declinations not accepted; mask required if exempt
Documentation and Compliance
- Confidentiality Agreement and Code of Conduct acknowledgment required
- Agency Nurse Orientation Quiz: Must score 84% or higher prior to start
- Employment Application and Skills Checklist required
- Verification of most recent employer required
- Two professional references within 3 years required
