Job Opportunity: Stepdown Registered Nurse (RN)

Location: Saint Joseph, Missouri
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Overview

  • Stepdown RN needed; float to units of similar or lower acuity may be required.
  • Local candidates accepted within a 50-mile radius at a reduced rate.

Experience & Education Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required.
  • BSN preferred.

Licensure & Certifications Required

  • RN State License and/or Compact State Licensure (pending license acceptable but must be in hand prior to start).
  • BCLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or ARC accepted.
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only (RQI acceptable).
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - AHA only (RQI acceptable).
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) - Required for Emergency Department RNs prior to start; ICU RNs required if assignment exceeds 1 year.
  • NIH Stroke Certification (NIHSS) - Required annually for Acute Hospital RNs in specified units including Stepdown, ICU, Emergency Department, and others.
  • IV Certification (for LPNs, if applicable) - Must be obtained or accepted by Missouri.
  • NURSYS Verification required.
  • Primary source verification of certifications and state license within 30 days of start.

Testing & Competency Exams

  • Basic Dysrhythmia exam required for all RNs and LPN/LVNs; must score 84% or higher with only 2 attempts allowed (1 attempt for ICU).
  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exams as applicable.
  • Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement required annually.
  • Pass/Fail testing including EKG/Medication exams required for Acute Hospital RNs and LPN/LVNs.

Background & Documentation Requirements

  • Background check within 30 days of start including:
    • National Criminal Check
    • State and County Searches (10 years)
    • SSN Trace
    • National Sex Offender Check
    • FACIS Level 3
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM
    • HHS/OIG
  • Education verification with official transcript or diploma including graduation date.
  • Missouri EDL Search required within 30 days of start.
  • Employment application, skills checklist, work history verification, and 2 professional references within 3 years required.

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within last 12 months (not required annually).
  • Fit mask testing completed onsite at orientation.
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year, updated annually; additional requirements if positive TB history.
  • Immunizations or documented immunity required for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (vaccination series, titer, or declination accepted)
    • Varicella
  • Drug screen within 30 days of start (not required annually).
  • Seasonal flu vaccination required during flu season or agency-approved medical/religious exemption with mask-wearing mandate.

Facility & System Information

  • Facility has 352 certified beds.
  • Level II Trauma and Stroke Center.
  • Uses EPIC for charting.
  • Free parking available.
