Job Opportunity: CT Tech (Radiology / Cardiology)

Location: Jersey City, New Jersey
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Specialty: Radiology / Cardiology
  • Experience Required: Minimum 1+ years in specialty (highest requirement confirmed)
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not required (first-time travelers accepted)
  • Schedule: Every other weekend required, no on-call
  • Typical Caseload: Approximately 20 routine CT procedures per day
  • Charting System: EPIC
  • Scrub Color: Any
  • Licenses/Certifications Required:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • ARRT Certification
    • NJDEP License (must be obtained prior to start)

Required Certifications (as applicable)

  • BLS: AHA required; RQI and AHA instructor cards acceptable. Required for all RNs and techs involved.
  • ACLS: Required for certain units (e.g., Interventional Radiology RN, Adult Critical Care, ED). Not required for CT Tech unless specified by facility.
  • NRP: Required for specific units (L&D, NICU, Mother-Baby). Not required for CT Tech.
  • PALS: Required for ED, Outpatient Surgery, PACU, PICU, and Pediatrics. Not required for CT Tech.
  • CHEMO: Required as applicable (not typically for CT Tech).
  • EFM: Required for L&D and Mother-Baby units only.
  • Tech Certification Verification:
    • ARRT or RCIS required for Cardiac Catheter Lab.
    • ARRT required for Mammography Tech.
    • Confirm with Program Coordinator if additional tech certifications are required.

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Background Checks:
    • Criminal background check within 30 days of start, including alias and multi-level searches.
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and for renewals.
    • New Jersey Department of Treasury Exclusions List check required within 30 days of start and for extensions.
  • Health Documents:
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within required timeframes.
    • Physical exam within 12 months confirming ability to perform job functions and free of communicable disease.
    • Drug screen within 30 days of start (10-panel minimum).
    • Seasonal influenza vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually.
    • Immunizations or proof of immunity for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B, Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap.
    • Fit test and respiratory medical clearance if job tasks require respirator use.
    • Latex allergy questionnaire if applicable.
    • Color blindness exam if job tasks require color discrimination.
  • Competency Exams:
    • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required for all RNs/LPNs within 12 months of start.
    • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required for specific units; confirm if applicable.
    • Color blind testing within 1 year if applicable.
  • References & Work History:
    • Two references within last 2 years, including at least one managerial reference.
    • Employment application or resume with 7 years of work history.
    • Work history verification required for New Jersey candidates (minimum 1 year prior to start).
  • Facility Specific Requirements:
    • Must complete floating policy for every new assignment or site transfer.
    • Must sign job description prior to start for assigned unit.
    • Annual education sign-off and safety manual acknowledgment required.
    • Vendor medical clearance form required if history of positive TB.
    • Additional facility-specific attestations and training may be required (e.g., medication storage procedures, restraint competency, behavioral health screening in ED).

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must bring all required documentation to orientation.
  • On-site fit testing is mandatory for respirator clearance.
  • Candidates with name changes must provide proof and ensure all names are included in background checks.
  • Candidates switching between RWJ sites within 30 days may have some documentation accepted from previous assignment.
  • Online and in-person training (e.g., Iron Temple for Management of Assaultive Behavior) may be required for certain roles.

This position offers a 13-week travel contract opportunity for CT Techs with at least 1 year of experience, working in a busy hospital environment with approximately 20 routine CT cases per day. The role requires compliance with extensive credentialing, health, and competency requirements to ensure patient safety and regulatory adherence.
