Job Description

Provide nursing interventions and medication administration consistent with a systematic problem-solving approach for comprehensive nursing care in a juvenile correctional setting. The role involves working with male and female juvenile offenders, some of whom may remain in custody until age 21.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain general medical inventory, including controlled substances
• Conduct medication administration
• Review and evaluate nursing intervention plans for youth health conditions
• Ensure interventions align with comprehensive treatment plans
• Participate in staff trainings
• Prepare required clinical and administrative reports
• Maintain infection control standards
• Serve as a member of the facility’s medical treatment team
• Additional duties to be discussed during the interview

Work Hours

• Evenings, 2 PM to 10 PM
• Sunday through Thursday with Friday/Saturday pass

Qualifications & Requirements

• Licensed and registered to practice nursing in New York State
• Certifications required:

  • ACLS (American Heart Association or American Red Cross)
  • BLS (American Heart Association or American Red Cross)
  • PALS (American Heart Association or American Red Cross)
• State License: Copy of professional license required
• Competency Exams: Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (for RNs), and general competency exam required
• Background Checks:

  • Criminal background check including fingerprinting (to be completed onsite)
  • Sex offender registry and other relevant searches within the last 7 years of locations lived/worked/schooled
• Health Documents:

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months prior to start
  • TB questionnaire annually
  • Vaccination documentation or titers for Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
  • Drug testing (9 panel) within 1 year of start
  • Flu seasonal vaccination or declination for 2025-26
  • COVID-19 vaccine booster preferred but not required
• References: 2 required
• New York Statewide Central Registry clearance required for tracking purposes

• Juvenile correctional facility serving male and female youth offenders
• Accredited by the American Correctional Association
• Population approximately 100 youth
• Located in the Hudson Valley region of New York State
