Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Neuro Med Surg Nights)

Location: Saint Louis, Missouri
Employment Type: Travel/Contract

Job Details

  • Unit: Neuro Med Surg (Night Shift)
  • Patient Ratio: 1:6
  • Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week (12-hour shifts)
  • Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
  • Weekend Requirement: 2 shifts every other weekend (Friday/Saturday or Saturday/Sunday for night shift)
  • Floating: Floating within scope to other units allowed except ICU, SDU, and ED
  • Block Schedule: Not accommodated
  • Local Candidates: Not accepted (local radius rule: 75 miles)
  • Pending License: Accepted
  • On-call: Not required

Experience & Certifications

  • Required Specialty Experience: Minimum 2 years preferred
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not required (first-timers accepted)
  • Required Certifications:
    • BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support)
    • NIH Stroke Certification (required for all nurses)
  • Additional Certifications (may be required depending on unit):
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
    • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
    • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
    • EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring)
    • CPI or MAB (Crisis Prevention Institute or Management of Assaultive Behavior)
    • IV Certification (for LPN/LVN if applicable)

Compliance & Requirements

  • Background Checks:
    • Criminal background check within 6 months (7-year search including statewide, nationwide, and international if applicable)
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG quarterly checks
    • State-specific searches (Missouri and Illinois)
    • Education verification required before start
  • Licensing:
    • Primary source verification of professional license required (Missouri licenses verified via NURSYS)
    • Temporary licenses accepted but permanent license required for extensions
  • Health Requirements:
    • Physical exam within 1 year of start
    • Fit mask testing (N95 required, annual renewal)
    • Immunizations and titers: Tdap, TB test or equivalent, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella (with specific unit exemptions)
    • Drug testing within 1 year, must remain valid throughout assignment
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season
  • Competency Exams:
    • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required
    • Unit-specific competency exams (e.g., Oncology for Med Surg-Oncology unit)
  • Facility Specific Documents:
    • HIPAA Acknowledgement, Latex Allergy Questionnaire, Confidentiality Form, Regulatory Compliance Education, Hep B Declination, TB Questionnaire, Hand Hygiene Policy, Fingernail Policy, Dress Code Policy, Orientation Modules (mandatory for RNs and LVNs)
    • Badge photo required (head and shoulders, white background, no obstructions, taken within 6 months)

Additional Notes

  • References: Two professional references required (supervisors preferred)
  • Performance Evaluations: May be requested upon completion of assignment
  • Employment Application: Required and must be uploaded for facility review
  • Skills Checklist: Unit-specific skills checklist required within 1 year of start

This position offers a structured night shift schedule in a well-established acute care hospital with a focus on neuro medical-surgical nursing. It is suitable for RNs with at least 2 years of experience who hold required certifications and are comfortable floating within scope to other units (excluding ICU, SDU, and ED). First-time travel nurses are welcome to apply.
