Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Step Down Unit (Nights)
Location: Saint Louis, Missouri
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit & Shift Details
- Unit: Step Down Unit (Nights)
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:4
- Weekend Requirement: 2 shifts every other weekend (Friday/Saturday or Saturday/Sunday for night shift)
- Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week (3 shifts of 12 hours)
- Float Requirement: Yes, float within scope to lower acuity floors
- Block Scheduling: Not accommodated
- Local Candidates: Not accepted (local radius rule: 75 miles)
- Pending License: Accepted
- Must have been at bedside within last 6 months
Experience & Certifications
- Required Specialty Experience: Minimum 2 years as a Registered Nurse
- Prior Travel Experience: Not required
- Certifications Required:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- NIH Stroke Certification
- Additional Preferred/Unit-Specific Certifications:
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) or ENPC (Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course) for ER
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
- CPI or MAB (Crisis Prevention Institute or Management of Assaultive Behavior) if applicable
- IV Certification (for LPN/LVN if applicable)
Clinical Skills & Special Requirements
- Experience with titration of vasopressors, sedation medications, insulin drips
- Management of trach vents, arterial lines, external pacemakers, chest tubes
- Must be comfortable with EPIC charting system
Licensure & Compliance
- Missouri RN license required (pending licenses accepted)
- Primary source verification of professional license required (NURSYS verification for Missouri)
- Background checks required including:
- Criminal background check within 6 months
- EPLS/GSA/SAM quarterly checks
- HHS/OIG quarterly checks
- State-specific searches (Missouri EDL, Highway Patrol, Family Care Safety Registry)
- Education verification required (highest nursing education)
- Drug testing within 1 year of start, must include full panel (amphetamines, opiates, cocaine, etc.)
- Physical exam within 1 year of start
- Fit mask testing required annually (N95 respirators)
- Immunizations and health screenings required:
- Tdap vaccine or declination
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination/declination
- Flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption during flu season (Sept-April)
- HIPAA, Latex Allergy, Confidentiality, Hand Hygiene, Fingernail, Dress Code policies must be reviewed and signed prior to start
- Regulatory Compliance Education through online modules required annually
Additional Requirements
- Must complete unit-specific competency exams annually (including medication/pharmacology competency)
- Unit-specific skills checklist required within 1 year of start
- Two professional references required (supervisors preferred)
- Employment application required
- Badge photo required (head and shoulders, white background, no obstructions, taken within 6 months)
