Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (PCU) - Kansas City, Missouri
Position Details
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (RN)
- Unit: Progressive Care Unit (PCU) / MS/Tele
- Location: Kansas City, Missouri
- Employment Type: Travel/Contract
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- First-time Travelers: Accepted
- Local Candidates: Not accepted (must live at least 75 miles from facility)
- Pending License: Accepted
- On-call: Not required
- Floating: May be required to float between departments, units, and facilities within scope
- Block Schedule: Not accommodated
- Weekend Requirement: 8 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule period (Friday/Saturday/Sunday combination)
- Return to Office (RTO) Restrictions: No more than 7 days
- Guaranteed Hours: 3 shifts per 13 weeks (cancelled shifts must be regular shift length)
Experience Requirements
- Years of Specialty Experience Required: 2 years
- Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required
Patient Population / Special Requirements
Primary patient populations include:
- Post-bariatric surgery patients
- Urology cases (e.g., TURP, TURBT with CBI, nephrectomy, ileal conduit creation, nephroureterectomy)
- Hepatobiliary surgeries (e.g., Whipple, liver resection, gastric stimulator, complex biliary cases)
- Colorectal surgeries (e.g., colon resection, ostomy creation and takedown, surgical oncology)
- Trauma patients, especially abdominal injuries
- Patients with necrotizing soft tissue infections requiring serial debridement and wound vac changes
Required Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- NIH Stroke Certification
- Other certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., ACLS, PALS, TNCC, CPI/MAB) — verify based on unit specifics
Licensure
- Must have a valid RN license (Missouri or compact license accepted)
- Pending licenses accepted
- Primary source verification required (NURSYS for Missouri licenses)
- IV Certification required for LPN/LVN if applicable (not applicable for RN)
Compliance and Background Checks
- Criminal background check within 6 months (7-year search including statewide, nationwide, sex offender, and international if applicable)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks quarterly
- Education verification of highest nursing degree required
- State-specific searches and registries as applicable (Missouri and Illinois)
- Fingerprinting required for assignments in Illinois long-term care or rehab units
- Drug testing within 1 year of start, must include full panel and be current throughout assignment
Health Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start
- Fit mask testing (N95) required and must be renewed annually
- Immunizations and titers required or declination forms accepted for:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray (2-step PPD or equivalent)
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella (positive titer, vaccination, or declination)
- Hepatitis B declination required (vaccination not mandatory)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season (Sept 30 - April 1)
- Drug screening as per facility requirements
Competency Requirements
- Medication test/pharmacology competency exam (must meet passing score)
- Unit-specific competency exams (updated annually)
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (if applicable)
- Color blindness testing within 12 months of start
Facility-Specific Documents and Policies
- Badge photo (head and shoulders, white background, no obstructions, taken within 6 months)
- HIPAA Acknowledgement (annual)
- Latex Allergy Questionnaire (annual)
- Confidentiality Form (annual)
- Regulatory Compliance Education (annual, must score 80% or higher)
- Hepatitis B Declination (annual)
- TB Questionnaire (annual)
- Hand Hygiene Policy acknowledgment
- Fingernail Policy acknowledgment (must adhere or risk being sent home)
- Dress Code Policy acknowledgment
- Orientation Modules (required for all RNs, approx. 16 hours, completed via WorkRamp)
- Vehicle registration form if working day shifts (if applicable)
