Job Opportunity: Step-Down Registered Nurse

Location: Saint Louis, Missouri
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (Step-Down Unit)
  • Start Date: Approximately 3-4 weeks from compliance completion
  • Patient Ratios: 1:5
  • Required Years of Experience: 2 years
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • On-Call: Not required
  • Floating: Yes, within scope to meet facility needs
  • Block Scheduling: Not accommodated
  • Local Candidates: Not accepted (75 mile radius rule)
  • Pending License: Accepted
  • Return to Office (RTO) Restrictions: No more than 7 days of RTO per 13-week contract
  • Guaranteed Hours: Yes

Clinical & Specialty Requirements

  • Experience with common surgical procedures including:
    • Coronary artery bypass graft (CABG)
    • Mitral valve repair or replacement (MVR)
    • Aortic valve repair or replacement (AVR)
    • Aortic aneurysm repair
    • Maze procedure
    • Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR)
    • Heart transplant
    • Left ventricular assist device (LVAD) implant

Certifications Required

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only

Compliance & Background Requirements

  • Government-issued ID required
  • Criminal background check within 6 months (7-year search including statewide, nationwide, and international if applicable)
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks quarterly
  • Education verification of highest nursing degree required
  • State-specific background checks and registries as applicable
  • Drug testing within 1 year of start, must include comprehensive panel and be valid throughout assignment
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start
  • Fit mask testing required and must be renewed annually
  • Immunizations and health documents required:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (expires every 10 years)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray (2 negative PPDs or equivalent)
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination/declination as applicable
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption during flu season
  • Various facility-specific documents including HIPAA acknowledgement, confidentiality form, latex allergy questionnaire, hand hygiene, fingernail, and dress code policies must be reviewed and signed prior to start
  • Orientation modules required for all RNs, completed through online platform (approx. 16 hours)

Competency Exams

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (as applicable)
  • Unit-specific competency exam, updated annually
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 1 year of start and updated annually for Step-Down and related units

  • Candidates must comply with all facility policies and complete required documentation prior to start
  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position
  • References: Two professional references required, preferably supervisors within the last year
